Very sad news for Packer fans...Irvin Favre, father of Brett, has died

KILN, Miss. -- Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre's father died Sunday of a heart attack or a stroke while he was driving, Mississippi state police said. Irvin Favre was 58.

Mr. Favre apparently had a stroke or heart attack and drove off the highway. This is the worst possible way for Brett's streak to end. May Mr. Favre rest in peace and best wishes to his family. Hopefully the Packers can win this one for Brett and his family.

As a life long Bears fan let me say that I am very sorry for his loss and think this is such sad news.

and I think he will play Monday in a tribute to his dad, and I would not want to be an opponent on that night.

9. Just talked to a friend in Wisconsin

and it sounds like Favre isn't going to play. She heard it on the local newscast up there. But I think the Packers are going to win it for their grieving leader. And there may be no stopping him once he's back.

and his family. I am lifelong Bears fan living in Northern WI and of course I am no fan of the man who has cause the Bears an unlimited number of headaches but I am very sorry for his and his family's loss. May God watch over the Favre Family in their hour of sorrow.

Bret's Dad was also his coach. The affection is very deep.

I don't think Bret shoudl even try to play tomorrow night. Life is more important than football. Football is a great game but in the end it's just a game.

I am a huge Packer fan, but things like this remind me it is just a game.
My thoughts and prayers are with the Favre family. This will be a hard Christmas for them all.

They have reported that Brett's family has encouraged him to play. Given the Packers situation w/ regard to the playoffs, I think it is very doubtful he will sit out tonight's game. Brett knows his father would want him to play. (And look for the rest of the team to really step it up.)

Everyone is urging him to do so, friends and family. They say "Big Irv" would want it that way. I dont think he should, thats just me though. Everybody has their own way of dealing with the death of a loved one.
