Remember when they actually used to play music videos on MTV?

Yeah, me too. When I came back to LA a month ago, I discovered something called Tube TV on cable here--nothing but music videos. No game shows. No reality shows. 24-hour videos (and a nice mix of new and classic videos, too).

I checked the corporate info, and learned that Tube TV was started by Les Garland, one of the founders of MTV.

Good stuff; check to see if you've got it on your local cable.

edited to add: Oh, and it's commercial free, too.

I used to wait around when WHAM! was huge for 59 minutes to catch their "newest release" at the top of every hour when I was 14. I remember when "Freedom" was the video and I could watch it over and over...if I had tivo back then. :hi:

8. Hey, don't be embarrassed...

I think "Freedom" is a spectacular song, made cheesy by synths and a really empty, reverb-heavy mix. If it was done as a more dense combination of classic Mowtown and Phil Spector arrangements, it would be a pop classic.

But now MTV has to make room for things like "Pimp Your Ride" "Yo Momma" and "Punkd". Gotta find work for those former "That 70's Show" actors.

Hell, I remember MTV when it had the original 5 VJ's...Alan Hunter, J.J. Jackson, Nina Blackwood, Martha Quinn and Mark Goodman. I'm sort of shocked that I still remember their names...

I was recently listening to an interview/performance done for Sirius Satellite Radio by the original lineup of Asia, and Mark Goodman was the interviewer.

P.S. Go see the Asia reunion tour if it comes near your town and there's any tickets left. Most shows are sold out.
