Tonight: Livernunyuns
I'm taking what advantage I can of Miz t.'s absence.
She hates liver.
So tonight I'm pigging out on liver and onions.

When I was growing up we lived with my grandparents, my Mom's Dad and Mom. Grandpa loved liver and onions and my Mother did as well. However, my Grandmother despised it as did my Dad.

Neither my sister, my two brothers or myself were forced to eat it, because when Grandpa and Mom decided to have a "liver night", Grandma would always make something else for the rest of us to eat.

After Grandpa died, liver was never again on the menu in my childhood home.

I did try it once, I remember it had really bad "mouth feel" and tasted really funky.

But what's really strange is I love smoked liver sausage, Usinger's is the best. I don't eat it anymore, it's too high in cholestrol, but I used to love liver sausage sandwiches...

I never quite got the taste for it, but boy, did she love it.

The ONLY part of that that sounds appealing is the onions part. Mom tried and tried to get us to eat liver...and we tried...but. ugh. I'd smother it with catsup...and it would still taste nasty.

But this isn't about me. I'm glad you're having a great meal. :-)

Which reminds me that it is time for dinner...

When we go to a favourite restaurant here I order liver & onions and bacon. It is SO good.
My husband won't eat it, so I don't cook it. It's a real treat for me.

11. And potatoes, don't forget the potatoes...
When I indulge in liver and onions I need a large pan of fried diced potatoes to round out the meal. Get the potatoes going, than caramelize the onions while I address the liver (that pesky chewy membrane thingy has got to go). It's a high art form if it's done right. Mmmm.
