2. It just seems kind of squicky and unnatural to me.

I mean, it's not like given the opportunity they would go up to a cow and stark sucking on her teat.

9. That's because it is squicky and unnatural.
Humans aren't meant to consume the milk of other animals. No animals are meant to do that.

96. I hear ya
I'm just saying...Haruka said that it was unnatural for human's to consume the milk of another animal, and I just wondered if that applied to other animal or particularly milk by products, or if Humans, naturally, should be either vegan, or some strange omnivore who is a vegan + uncooked scavenged meat...because fire is unnatural. ;)

12. No. But it does irritate me when I'm told I *need* milk.
There are lots of other products -- dairy, fish, produce -- that contain calcium and *don't* make me feel queasy (like more than a few ounces of fluid milk does). It's odd that I'm told as an adult, I need what another species' infants drink in order for me to be healthy.

Edited on Sat Sep-16-06 08:01 PM by YellowRubberDuckie
It was about the new milk factories. They let the cows roam around the barn and they decide when they get milked. Then when the machine is doing the sucking, it imitates the actions of the calf. It was all really awesome and very humane. The cow even liked getting her udders disinfected. This was on either Discovery or Animal Planet.
Is it really one of your pet peeves, or are you being silly? If you're not just being silly, dude, you've got to get a hobby.

I can't drink milk because I'm not white, but that doesn't mean it should gross me out to see someone else do it.

2) Snot, like clams or oysters.

I was born and raised in dairy country- there was a cow pasture beyond our back property line. I've had milk straight from the tap (so to speak) and it's MUCH better than the 2% stuff I drink now.

I drink several cups of milk a day- in fact, I just finished off a tall cold one.

being able to drink a plain glass of milk sometime when I was in college.

I still like it on cereal and in tea (but not in coffee) and cocoa, but the idea of having milk with a meal or even with cake doesn't appeal to me at all anymore.

By the way, I've noticed that most of the adults who drink milk regularly are male. I can't think of any grown women I currently know who (or ever have known) who drink milk, but a couple of boyfriends and several platonic male friends were milk drinkers.

oh wait, cow's milk? Yeah, that's fucking disgusting at any age unless you're a calf.

You'd literally HATE me. I haven't gone a day without milk in 50 years! I couldn't imagine it.

If this is what upsets you -

70. It doesn't infuriate me, but I still don't like drinking milk
I'm not a vegeterian or vegan, but I prefer the taste of soy milk to cow's milk. Of course the only time I come close to drinking any kind of milk is when I eat cereal.

76. mmmm, I love milk.
Edited on Sun Sep-17-06 07:17 AM by Maine-ah
We grew up drinking milk straight from the cow. No processing of any kind and the cream would rise to the top of the glass container and I'd just shake it up. Now, I still drink tons of milk, love the stuff. Drink only non-hormoned stuff. If I could afford to have a cow, I would.

Most of the foods that I had as a kid were straight from a farm. My father was a teacher and most every teacher at the highschool either had a garden or a farm of some kind and they would swap all sorts of stuff. Every year we'd get a couple of pigs for the freezer, fresh milk all the time, fresh eggs, fresh beef, fresh veggies. Let me tell you something else, four kids in my family, and we were NEVER sick. We had the basics, you know, like chicken pox, but no colds, no flu...

It shouldn't matter that I'm no longer an infant. If lactating women agree to feed me, then that's our own business.
