Northern Exposure
The last couple of weeks we've been watching the early seasons of this show on DVD. We're nearing the end of the third season now. I'd forgotten what a truly great show this was at times.

Any other fans?

1. I'm a total fan.
I don't have any of the DVDs though. I should remedy that.

3. I've been getting them through netflix
I wanted to buy the DVDs when they first came out, but they had this insane packaging--the discs were wrapped in a parka, complete with a zipper--which wouldn't have been a bad thing but that it was just an excuse to charge 60 bucks for a season that only had eight episodes. They did the same thing with the 2nd season, which only had seven. I think they've gotten around to repackaging them now, but they might still be more expensive than they should be.

But enough complaining :) It's a great show, and it's been fun revisiting.

10. I saw them in Borders recently.
They still had the insane parka packaging but were $30something for the season.

4. Wow, that's cool. Do you go to the northern exposure fests?
It looks like a nice cozy town :)

5. Nah - although I've been in the middle of them.
I lived in a house for 6 years that they started the parades in front of. I'd sit on the porch w/ my coffee and watch. Actually, that house was directly across the street from "Maggie's house" - the one that burned down when her mom visited?

This one:

Anyway - the town is getting more and more sucky all the time - A ginormous resort company bought up much of the natural land surrounding us and is building a brazillion McMansions, a few golf courses, a bunch of condos, a resort, etc etc etc all the way around us. And driving up the road into the Wenatchee National Forrest all you see anymore are gated communities springing up everywhere. It's very sad, and the cost of living has more than tripled in the last 8 years.

A shitty old miner's house that needs a LOT of work? Over 200k.

6. that's too bad (but that's the west these days)
I grew up in a small town nestled against the big horn mountains. Once upon a time, there were great little drives you could take into the mountains and foothills, but now most of those drives are polluted by the huge mcmansions and planned communities. :puke: Sorry to hear about your town :(

9. I loved Northern Exposure.
I wished there had been a more satisfactory ending/wrap up to the series. I only have the first season dvd, but I have watched all of the episodes and the out takes are excellent. This is one I sure wish my library would get. They divide up all of these series for rentals and it is ridiculous.

11. the last season was weird
I remember rob morrow left the show, apparently to become a movie star. I don't remember him ever being in a remotely big movie, other than quiz show, which he filmed while still working on northern exposure. I don't think I watched any of that last season without him. At any rate, I certainly don't remember any of it.

12. And you know the sun's setting fast
I cried and cried during the last episode. I love that show.

And you know the sun's setting fast
And just like they say, nothing good ever lasts
Well go on now, and kiss it goodbye
But hold on to your lover, 'cause your heart's bound to die
Go on now, and say goodbye to our town, to our town
Can't you see the sun setting down on our town, on our town, goodnight

Up the street beside the red neon light
That's where I met my baby on one hot summer night
He was the tender and I ordered a beer
It's been forty years and I'm still sitting here

But you know the sun's setting fast
And just like they say, nothing good ever lasts
Go on now, and kiss it goodbye
But hold on to your lover, 'cause your heart's bound to die
Go on now, and say goodbye to our town, to our town
Can't you see the sun setting down on our town, on our town, goodnight

It's here I had my babies and I had my first kiss
I've walked down Main Street on the cold morning mist
Over there is where I bought my first car
It turned over once, but then it never went far

And I can see the sun setting fast
And just like they say, nothing good ever lasts
Well go on now, and kiss it goodbye
But hold on to your lover, 'cause your heart's bound to die
Go on now, and say goodbye to our town, to our town
Can't you see the sun setting down on our town, on our town, goodnight

I buried my Mama and I buried my Pa
They sleep up the street beside the pretty brick wall
I bring 'em flowers about every day
But I just gotta cry when I think what they'd say

If they could see how the sun's setting fast
And just like they say, nothing good ever lasts
Go on now, and kiss it goodbye
But hold on to your lover, 'cause your heart's bound to die
Go on now, and say goodbye to our town, to our town
Can't you see the sun setting down on our town, on our town, goodnight

Now I set on the porch and watch the lightning bugs fly
But I can't see too good, I got tears in my eyes
I'm leaving tomorrow, but I don't wanna go
I love you, my town, you'll always live in my soul

But I can see the sun setting fast
And just like they say, nothing good ever lasts
Well go on now, I gotta kiss you goodbye
But I'll hold to my lover, 'cause my heart's bound to die
Go on now, and say goodbye to my town, to my town
I can see the sun has gone down on my town, on my town, goodnight
Goodnight
