My bird beat me up over a raspberry!!!!
I'm still in shock.

Murphee the Tiel is sitting on her eggs, so she's kind of protective (bitchy)

for fun I thought I would give her a treat. It's a dried raspberry.....so I put it near her and she like starts beating up my hand (LOL) protecting her eggs from nasty old me (LOL) but momentarily stops to drag the raspberry closer to her then starts beating me up again.

Now I look, the raspberry is shredded and she's calm and trying to sleep. Well........

I'd love to see video of the eggs when they hatch. It would warm my heart and maybe heal your hand quicker. At least maybe take your mind off the pain. :)

3. They are infertile.....
they won't hatch, she sits on them until she gets bored. :)

A few times a year she has a batch of eggs....... poor little thing, for about a week or two she puts so much effort into sitting on them and keeping them warm.

then she gets bored and gets back to normal. ;)

2. From another 'tiel mommy...
Scruffy's a male, but it's amazing what he can decide to pitch a fit about.

I tried to remove his favorite toy the other day and he flew and stomped around the room in a true hissyfit.

I made it up to him by taking outside and giving him a spray bottle bath which he loves.

11. They are......they really are.....
I remember once I had Murphee on the arm of my sofa. There was this little toy in between me and Murphee. Murphee wanted to get to me (I probably had another treat or something) so she marched her little way towards me, found the toy in her way so with one very deliberate side kick, hurled that little toy half way across the room.

They are nuts. ;)

4. When parrots attack!
Do a search on YouTube for "parrot attack." There are some cute and hilarious videos of parrots deciding they hate (and then attacking) various random items. There's an especially funny one of a parrot (can't remember of it's an amazon or a cockatoo) flipping out and attacking a towel.

7. We found out three weeks ago that one of our "male" tiels was female
Now she's laid 12 eggs and is brooding...The one we still think is a male is getting aggressive about the eggs, also.

9. Apparently, when we removed a few eggs to placate the male
who has taken residence in the brooding box she apparently hates, it triggered her instincts to lay more. She originally had laid 8 before we started moving eggs.

The owners/staff of the local bird specialty store that's also an on-site bird "nursery" indicate that egg-laying behavior like that is not unusual in cocketiels and parrolettes. Those birds tend to lay closer to the ground (nearer to predators) and have more eggs.

12. that seems a little excessive to me (though I'm no expert!)
I would just worry about her getting enough calcium and protein. When Murphee is laying (usually 4, this time 6) I make sure to give her hard-boiled eggs.
She'll just chow down the egg whites and nibbles at the shell.
