Neighbor's cat killed our Parakeet.

These neighbors do not get their cats fixed, just let them breed and breed and then can't care for them so there's cats running all over the rural neighborhood. I was out Saturday evening and our bird likes to peck on the ground. Never had a problem before and like a nightmare this cat comes out of nowhere and gets him right at my feet. I get the bird but it's too late, he dies in our hands. My husband said he had a dream a few nights before where our bird died in the kitchen and that's where we were when his little eyes blinked for the last time. This is the same family where the little boy killed a kiten and just today I find out he did it again some time back. I went over to talk to them about it and the answer was: Cat's kill birds. I told them if they had taken care and feed them and keep them off our property it would not have happened and not to be surprised if animal control shows up. We are very hearbroken. This bird went everywhere with us and just sang all the time and walked around the house to come to us. He had such personality and was so friendly. He'd whistle certain ways and liked to be outside in the morning and evening when the birds are out. Yesterday the wild birds were calling him and imitating his song. Anyway, thanks for listening.

:hug: :cry: Those thoughtless, careless neighbors of yours are ridiculous. Their cats should never have been on your property, as you well know. :grr: But my heart goes out to you and your husband for your loss. :hug: What a tragic end for such a beautiful pet. :pals:

4. Thanks, it was my little daughter's bird

that she bought with her own money. She's really upset and had just subscribed to a Bird Talk magazine. Guess I'll have to cancel it now. I like to whistle all the time but now I just don't have the heart too. Cisco would sit on my shoulder when I'd do that and he'd look in my mouth to see if there was a bird in there. Maybe, I don't know, but it was sure cute of him.

:hug: I'm sorry that she had to experience such a terrible thing so early. :hug: When she's ready for another bird, I think it would be a wise idea to let her have one. You might want to let her keep the Bird Talk Magazine if it's not too painful for her, because if she wants another parakeet in the future, it would help her prepare for it. :)

6. I'm very sorry.

I remember losing a pet canary, when I was very young, in a similar way. It may be my earliest memory, in fact. It was actually the only pet I had, as a child. Only difference from your loss was, the cat was my grandmother's so my anger was somewhat lessened.

Still, it was very sad for me and it took me many years to stop hating cats (I love them now).

8. Sorry but

although the neighbors should not allow the cats to breed uncontrolled, even in a rural area, cats are cats. They roam and will kill birds. I have parakeets and a cat. I never allow the parakeets outside, outside of the cage, even when my cat is locked in the garage because of the very fact that there are other cats in the neighborhood. I may be standing there on guard, but I'm not as quick as a cat. My condolences.
