Neighborhood kid just tried to steal my son's bike from our front yard.

My son usually just 'drops' his bike on the walk between riding and stuff until the evening.

I was pulling in to the driveway and I see this strange kid walking off with it.

I stopped, asked his name and he gives me some cock and bull story how 'this kid walking down the street said he could have it'. Yeah, right.

I say, no way, kiddo and he puts the bike down and runs off down the street.

Best news is. His mother is a county police officer. This should be loads of fun. :eyes:

It was a birthday gift we bought with combined monies from us and his uncles. He rides his bike all the time, so it wouldn't be cheap to replace.

14. Here's the worst part.

Apoparently, the mom, the POLICE OFFICER, beats the kid. When he got in trouble a couple of years ago, she beat him with the belt. So, there is no way I can tell her. I can't be party to that.

Glad the kid didn't get the bike. Let's hope the Mom wakes up to what her lit'l darlin' is doing, if not, a call to make an official report might help.

I think some of those kids take the bikes and then drop them elsewhere. We've had to call the police a couple times to pick up bikes left in the trees in our valley out back also by the road out front.

7. Neighborhood kids stole my bike when I was 7

My folks had just given it to me, it wasn't more than a day or two old. We went inside to get a cold drink and all of our bikes were taken.

We called the police. They found the kids down the street riding our bikes. I don't think anyone ever pressed charges.

I remember thinking at the time that it was a shame you couldn't leave your bike on the front walk w/o someone taking it. That was 35 years ago.

13. My son't bike was stolen while he was watching a baseball

game. He got up to stretch, saw it was gone, and sprinted around the park looking for it. He found the thief with a bunch of friends, taking turns riding the thing. Long story short, he retrieved the bike. This year the little jerk is on his soccer team. He came up to Juergs and said, "Hey, didn't I take your bike this summer?"

18. Several years ago...

I lock up my bike, (had three stolen so I take NOOOO chances,) and go into a store.

I come back out.

Kid about 10 or 12 is trying to break the lock off by yanking the bike.
I say, "What are you doing?"

"Getting my bike!"

I say, "That's MY bike, you little bastard."

He starts to run off.
I grabbed him, and dragged him back into the store, he's fighting me all the way back in.

Store manager approaches us, I fill him in.
Kid starts SCREAMING.

Not crying, SCREAMING.
Won't give us his name.

Cops show up 15 minutes later, manager and I fill in the cops.
About 1/2 hour later, (after cops finally get name of brat,) kid's Mom shows up, guess what!
You guessed it, "My child can do no wrong!" type.

Make a long story short, turns out kid had a juvenile record for stealing bikes, Mom kept bailing him out.

Fortunately, my bike wasn't damaged, but my arm was from the brat scratching and BITING me.
Saw the kid's name recently in the local "police blotter," seems he never learned, is now serving several years for upgrading to stealing cars.
