I believe the credit for that one goes to Rodney Dangerfield.

3. I guess the rationale is what always falls short
The icing rule was introduced to prevent instances where teams facing a much stronger opponent often resorted to pure defense, simply shooting the puck up the ice every time they gained possession, resulting in an unexciting spectacle.

And I guess an unexciting spectacle is the reasons for all the fighting, too? Jeez louise, I'm from California and I guess I will continue to be hockey challenged.

4. Last season there was an average of less than a fight a game.

9. Depends on one's perspective.
The point is that the role of fighting in hockey is greatly exagerrated by those who don't watch the game. It's certainly a bizarro quirk of the game that the extracurricular violence is allowed at all, but if you sit down for over 2 hours to watch an entire hockey game, odds are you'll see less than 2 minutes of fighting, if any.

5. Yeah, unlike every other sport
take away the shot clock or the play clock and see how boring basketball and football would get. Have you ever seen tape of a basketball game in the pre-shot clock era. You'd have the team with the lead dribbling around for 5 minutes at a time playing keep-away. Hockey is an excellent sport.

7. Ain't no clock used in a baseball game
and I find the game exciting. I don't doubt hockey is a neat game, but I was never exposed to it in and simply don't understand it.

8. I left baseball out cause it's the king of sports
on that we agree.

Playoff hockey is honestly the 2nd most exciting sport, imo, after playoff baseball. I don't know where in CA you are, but if you're near the ducks or sharks, you should check them out some time in person. Being there and seeing how big they are and how fast they skate, and how much skill they have with the puck is something that cannot be understood on television.

Same goes for professional wrestling, I'll try anything once ;)
