Everybody ready for Martin Scorsese directs Jack Nicholson?

. . . Early Internet reports suggested that Mr. Nicholson had continuously tinkered with William Monahan’s script in an effort to increase Costello’s shock value. But Mr. King preferred the word “collaboration” to characterize the star’s involvement. He disputed the notion that Mr. Nicholson patterned Costello after the notorious Whitey Bulger, who disappeared in 1995 after ruling Boston’s underworld for a generation. Widely reported to be bisexual as well as sadistic, the 77-year-old Mr. Bulger is still wanted by the F.B.I. on 18 counts of murder.

Ubiquitous Web reports described Mr. Nicholson, now 69, eating an insect, wielding sex toys, bathed in blood and more or less personifying evil. If the version now being screened for the press is a bit tamer than the buzz advertised, it is not by much.

So “The Departed” becomes a question-mark film. Will it reintroduce Mr. Nicholson to a new generation, as “Batman” once did? Or will his Frank Costello smack of geriatric retread: “The Last Detail’s” Badass Buddusky meets “The Shining’s” Jack Torrance, only more debauched?

Will this film even the score for Mr. Scorsese, about whose Oscar near-misses Jon Stewart joked, “Three 6 Mafia, one; Scorsese, zero”? Or will it simply provoke nostalgia for an era when Nicholson and Scorsese together would have been a sure thing?

....this ought to be worth a look. hell, "missouri breaks" with Marlon Brando was panned as a terrible movie, but Nicholson and Brando just fucking around was better than 99 percent of the other crap out there at the time....Nicholson and Martin will certainly be worth a look.

18. I read it somewhere, maybe a year ago. He was quoted directly.

I think it was in connection with one of his recent documentaries, maybe the blues documentary.

I'm just hoping he's changed his mind, since it's possible he was talking about after this film.:shrug:

or Jessica Simpson or someone that people know and have heard of and who have a proven track record of making excellent films?

11. He has not grown into himself. He still looks wet behind the

ears. With maturity I forsee great possibilites for him. His portrayl of the poet Rimbaud (sp?) in Total Eclipse was the SHIT and I also thought he did an excellent job in The Basketball Diaries and a credible job in The Aviator. I also liked him in Catch Me If You Can.

I look forward to what his future brings to the screen...

Sean Penn does that to me. I think Penn is a great actor, but I don't like watching him. Reminds me of a mix of two people, neither of whom I like to think about--one tragic, one evil. I don't really avoid him, I just never actually want to see his films. Come to think of it, I haven't seen many of them.

Leonardo is great actor. He develops complex characters, he can portray subtle emotions as he did in The Aviator or over-the-top heart-wrenching anguish, as he did in Romeo+Juliet. He can do popular roles like Titanic and artsy films like most of the rest of what he's done (Total Eclipse comes to mind). Talented guy. He works well with Scorscese, too. I'm looking forward to this film, and I hate gangster movies. (except Godfather, but that transcended ganster).

No questions asked. I love this man's movies, and I've been looking forward to this one since he was here in Boston filming it last year.
