Anyone else work with someone that will NOT STFU???
And talks just to hear herself? And runs on and on and on and on..... And gets LOUDER AND LOUDER AND LOUDER if she thinks someone may not be listening? And interrupts anyone ELSE talking so she can take over the conversation?

Help me, Jesus

STFU! STFU! STFU! STFU! STFU! STFU! STFU! STFU! STFU! STFU! STFU!!

2. I had a roommate like that just before I got married...
and there were times I just wanted to tell her to put a sock in it. :grr: :yoiks: I wanted to deck her at others. I don't mind peace and quiet, especially when there's nothing to say. WHY do people have to talk when there's no purpose behind it??? Is silence so terrible?

I feel your pain...

3. Indeed.
I have earned somewhat of a 'reputation' for being unfriendly because after I either try the 'uh-huh', 'yep', 'really' at what are sometimes not the proper pauses - I explain that what I'm doing has to happen in a particular time frame, besides which I have no interest in whatever the subject is. Then I shut the door to my space.

Keeping these people at arm's length is a constant battle. :banghead:

7. No - but on top of making everything a never-ending subject to
babble on about - she punctuates a lot of her words with --- UMMM .... She'd be done twice as fast with her stories if she struck the word UMMM from her vocabulary.

And if you're talking to someone else about something - she butts in. There's NOTHING she's not already an expert on, knows about, or knows someone that knows about it. She's the original "been there, done that, got the t-shirt" chick.

8. Oh boy, do I!
First off, this guy's voice CARRIES! He also makes personal calls and is always complaining to those he calls. He just sounds as though he's ordering them around, and when they don't conform to his wishes, he derides their policies as stupid. He can be very unprofessional. But we've talked about it, and he realizes when he's being disruptive now. That's something, I guess. :eyes:

20. Afraid so
Whichever industry you work in, I suspect there is a steady stream of characters like that available. That has been my experience over the past few decades.

"Outdoor" voices are bad enough in themselves, but when they are attached to someone who is enamored with the sound of their own yammering - ooh, boy!

9. OMG - a kindred spirit!

I work in IT for a big arts organization. I used to share an office with 2 other guys, but one of them got promoted and became the boss of the two of us remaining. He moved into his own office, and now the guy I share my office with will just not STFU! The third guy in the office provided a nice buffer, so Mr. Talky didn't talk quite so often. But now, Jesus! This guy has no understanding of body language - I purposely set up my workstation so that my back is facing him, and he still won't shut up. I never turn around to acknowledge that he is talking to me, and still he talks, talks, talks. It's never about anything of substance, he just needs to hear his own voice and command my attention. :banghead:

There used to be an office across the hall that had a console which I had to monitor. I would use every opportunity to go to that console and enter commands that did nothing but display screen after screen of stats. He would occasionally follow me and watch, but he never learned to use that particular system, so he didn't know what I was doing. I would issue commands to display stats and then say "Oh my, I better follow up on that" then I would issue the other command which showed different stats and then I would say "Holy Shit!" then I would get up quickly and run off into the distance. That meant it was time for a cigarette break, since the system I was monitoring NEVER had problems, but the jerk didn't know that...

Well, we retired that system , so now I just pretend to retrive voice mail messages, and leave the office whenever I can.

Whenever one of my friends stops by to say a quick hello, this guy jumps into the conversation and monopolizes it. x( My boss has told me that I have earned a speed pass at the pearly gates, and I will be pulled from line and escorted to my own private quarters. :bounce:

12. The console was the best!
Even my other colleagues in my department knew what I was doing. I occasionaly got a "Oh shit, you better take care of this..." They were all playing along... I've come to the conclusion that Mr. Talky is also Mr. Clueless, and Mr. I-Live-Under-a-Rock-and-don't-know-what's-going-on-around-me. :eyes:

16. Nearly killed her....
the woman in my office who talks to "herself". (The thing is, they AREN'T talking to themselves, they are forcing everyone within hearing distance to listen to them. It's a ploy to force people to pay attention to them.) The boss finally gave her a job where she works by herself and moved her away from me, for which I am grateful.

Now there is a new woman who does it. She's not as bad, but now I've got a hair-trigger about it due to the last woman.

18. One of my roommates is just like that.
Now, it's her room. She absolutely has a right to talk if she wants, but in the words of kindergarten teachers everywhere, use your indoor voice. She always has to talk in a tone several decibels over what's necessary.

Worst part is, she brought three of her friends over today, and each of them try to outdo each other with the volume. All the while, I was trying to take a nap because I hadn't gotten much sleep last night after studying for a huge test and sitting up listening to another of my roommates snore all night (she's got a cold). Now, like I said, talk all you want, but if I know someone is trying to sleep, I try to keep my noise to a minimum, not the opposite. :banghead:

21. I just got the..
.. first real job I've had since 1991. (worked at home and didn't work in the intervening years).

It is my first job in a cubicle. It's a big cubicle, and I don't mind really - but hearing other people tell their wife "don't fix that Hamburger Helper I hate" is not something I wish to hear. And then I start thinking - when other folks stop by and talk, everyone around can hear us. I'm not sure how I feel about that.

Well, I've been there 2 days and I already have an MP3 player to drown out the phone and whatnot conversations. But this is going to be an adjustment, probably in the top 3 of adjustments I've had to make in my entire life :)

22. I don't think I would last very long in a cube farm....
I cannot stand gum popping, feet tapping, pencil rapping, whistling, singing, noseblowing, snoring, tongue clicking, nail ticking... you get my point. :D and people here think I am easy to get along with. :hi:

... to the credit of my coworkers, I don't hear much extraneous racket, just conversations.

A guy "behind" me bumped his head on the overhead cabinet, which was sudden and loud and made me jump. He came around and apoligized to everyone :)

And of course I have to take pains not to make noise myself. I've told my wife not to expect much in the way of telephone conversation while I'm at work.

Yeah, I'd much rather have a real office, but at this point I don't have options :)

26. Two office mates tend to talk a lot....loudly.
About their kids & the TV shows they saw & what to eat next. (They do eventually get to work.)

Recently, they were discussing The Dixie Chicks. One said that Those Two should really make The One Who Talks Too Much shut up. Or they'll keep losing fans. I answered that the Chicks have also won some new fans recently. Not EVERYBODY is in love with Bush. Things quieted down a bit.
