is anyone else here bothered by weak handshakes?

i'm in a business that entails a lot of handshakes and i'm appalled by the weak handshakes i encounter, including from our ex-air force mayor

i have a hard time trusting anyone who can't shake my hand

1. It drives me bonkers...I form an immediate, distasteful impression.

I shake hands with people on a daily basis as part of my job. I hate when people over you just their fingertips in a weak, halfhearted way.

5. Yes, but before that . . .

I don't feel real comfortable about touching strangers' hands. Like, they have scratched their faces and noses, touched door handles, scratched their asses, pet their dogs, and stuff like that.

In the course of business, I do shake hands but I wash my hands first chance I get.

7. I have to shake hands quite a bit too, and weak handshakes

bother me. Now, I don't want my hand crushed or anything, but come on, folks, at least have a firm grip.

8. Personally, I'd rather bow than shake hands.

But in a situation where a handshake is expected, I do so firmly; I'm not a big fan of handshakes, but it's not pleasant to have someone's hand feel like something limp and dead when you're shaking it, either.

13. It's definitely an American thing;

in Japan, for instance, direct and prolonged eye contact is seen as rude and disrespectful. And shaking hands isn't done, either.

12. Conversely, I hate when someone gives me the "I read a self help book

on how to get the psychological edge in business so I will now squeeze the shit out of your hand while simutaneously turning our handshake so my hand is on top and yours is on bottom alpha male" handshake.

in some cultures if you have a strong handshake its considered, trying to prove dominance over the other...
