No, it ain't Auschwitz-Berkanau, but I sure feel like the Nazis I work for are treating me like Poland on a bad day in 1939.

I think the wife and I are going to downgrade our lives and go to work in bookstores and hardware stores. Working here has started once again to trigger daily migraines. I don't think I can do this.

Yesterday, I was sitting in a meeting and I lost my train of thought. My head was POUNDING, and I couldn't for the life of me remember the subject of a project I've been working on since last Thursday.

i found a list at one time, somewhere on the internet, actually bills of lading for the human cargo that was transferred into camps like auschwitz.

the list had names, towns of origin, and occupations of the jewish people being sent either to their deaths or to forced slave labor.

people like you and me. truck drivers, professors, bankers, bakers.

it amazes me that people can get incensed about the olive garden, but this thread flies.

i don't care how bad your day was, you have NEVER in any meaningful way experienced anything like a european jew, roma, catholic, homosexual, differently abled person did during WW2.

did your boss storm into your house with a contingent of totenkopf SS and pull you from your home, divest you of your property and assets, revoke your citizenship, seize your passport, and send you to a camp?

If you'd notice, in the original posting, there was a disclaimer that I am not claiming to be in a concentration camp.

On the other hand, the new, American, Work-You-to-Death under the heading of COMPETITIVENESS and COMPANY LOYALTY are in fact in full swing, causing mass depression, poor health, and premature death due to stress. If you aren't in the middle of this, I congratulate you. I am. And I think I'll be just as DEAD if I have a stroke at my desk due to stress; and I think the rich motherfuckers who own this company would be just as happy if they could behave just like I. G. Farben.

that i wasn't honing in necessarily on you.

but, i have often thought of ways to integrate "arbeit macht frei" into a thread.

i never had the balls to do it.

plus i remember lots of people who fought in ww2, my grandmother's stories of what it was like when she lived in london during the blitz, how she gave birth to my mother during a blackout/saturation bombing of london, and several holocaust survivors i have had the distinct pleasure of knowing.

i just find it overwhelmingly bizarre how a ripfest can ensue with things like veganism, chicken preparation, the olive garden, and body types, but not the holocaust in the lounge. maybe it is a function of age.

I didn't take it personally. Besides, as a victim of several ripfests, I can relate. I try not to do so, but I have a temper and it rises when I have a migraine.
