My cat is lying in the threshold so I can't close my door.

Why do they do this??? This cat has a great window platform and a pet exit/entrance in said window but she meows at the door to go out. And if I leave the door open, she makes sure I can't close it by parking herself in the middle of it.

She also gets on the computer if I'm working on it. To get attention, I guess.

I've always loved sleek black animals--had a lab for a long time, and a friend of mine had a pet raven in the English countryside. That bird was smarter than most of Dim Son's cabinet. And luckily, it hunted its own carrion for food. I'd hate to be responsible for feeding a raven!

As for this cat, I got her 5 years ago just after Halloween. It was scary how many black cats were at the shelter--and every Halloween since then, I lock the cat in the house. I hope no DU-ers with black cats have ever had a problem with idiots bothering them on their holiday!

I have four cats and three of them are black. I didn't choose it; they chose me. The cats who came to my back door were the cats I adopted. My brother is superstitious about black cats and bad luck. He and his wife come up for a few months every year. It's hilarious how the black cats will try to shmooze up to him. (One year, I put devil horns on one of them, just for my brother).

...I didn't used to be a big fan of the long-eared vegetarian rodents, but my kitty (the one pictured) had a lapine friend, and they played together until the neighbour moved away. He was a great rabbit, lots of fun (I had this idea that rabbits did nothing other than wiggle their noses and leave droppings) cuddly and playful. Also, as I too am a vegetarian, I fed him my broccoli sprouts and baby carrots.

Of course, I didn't used to like cats either, thought they were all aloof and diva-esque. Then I got my Bombay, who's also cuddly and playful and will eat anything. (except those baby carrots) She obviously flunked out of Feline 101 where they teach cats to be finicky and stuck-up. But without a doubt, she's spoiled to her rotten core!!

I've been thinking about adopting a rabbit from the shelter. How do you think a bunny would do with four cats? And while I'm asking bunny questions, what is their life span?

16. I don't know how long rabbits live....

...but 4 cats might be too much for one little bunny. I initially kept my kitty away from the rabbit when it was just a little fluff ball, because when the cat saw it, she immediately went into the pounce position--rodents are usually just dinner for felines. But once the rabbit grew to its full size, my cat didn't think of him as food anymore, and they made friends.

Four cats might still think they could take a rabbit. Felines are prime carnivores, top of the food chain, remember?

18. Don't know about cats, but...

Bunnies can live anywhere from five to twelve years with a good diet (lots of hay, greens, limited pellets), attention, and capable vet care. They should be housed indoors and given plenty of run time--they're social animals and love to be around people (other bunnies are a tossup; they can form lifelong bonds or hate the other bunny on sight).

23. I think relative age is crucial.

We had cats and dogs that got along great because the cats were full grown when the dog was just a puppy. But I think a kitten wouldn't do well with full grown dogs. Likewise, I bet kittens would be OK with an adult bunny but I'd have real resevations about bringing a young bunny into a house with four adult cats.

I love them to death, but have serious doubts about their politics.

I'm convinced that one of my cats at least is a violent, racist, homophobic flat-earther. He hates Asian people, running and hiding when he hears people speaking Chinese in the hallway. Whenever I watch any movies with queer themes, he knocks the DVD player off the TV and he does everything in his power to disprove Darwin. The only time he runs under my legs is when I'm carrying hot liquids. What kind of "survival of the fittest" produces an animal so determined to kill not only itself but it's primary food source? Ditto falling on his ass on purpose and stopping halfway through a door I'm trying to close and doing his damndest to scramble out a twenty story window.

It might be peer pressure; your cat could be hanging around with the wrong crowd. I can definitely relate to the hot liquids comment, but I think their worst self-destructive act is "weaving" in and out of our legs while we're walking. (Especially at the top of the stairs). They must know how much we love them.

26. That's funny, I've always thought cats were Dems....

....because they don't fall into lockstep with whatever they're told, but think for themselves. You can get a dog to do anything if you jump up and down and act enthusiatic. You KNOW if you practice that behaviour in front of a feline, they'll just give you "the Look" and go back to licking their butts.

Don't get me wrong, I love dogs--I'd have a house full of them if I had the room. But if you notice, it's usually the guy with the confederate flag on his Dodge Ram with the jacked-up wheels who has a dog in the back.

Cats are the most annoying animals on the planet some time, but no one can accuse them of putting loyalty above their own best interests!!
