a talking, realistic looking, lifesize Salacious Crumb doll ?

I want to send one to sit next Artie Lange on the Stern show.

1. Lucas is a terrible writer. But even a stopped clock is right twice a day.
Lucas actually crafted a well-written scene all by himself in none other than the original "Star Wars" film. I was watching the film a while back when I realized that the first scene aboard the Death Star, the conference among the leaders of the Outer Rim Territories, was quite well written. Politically astute, interesting, properly paced. It wasn't Paddy Chayevsky or William Goldman or anything. But for Lucas, it was pretty good.

2. Assuming, of course, that it was *Lucas* that wrote that scene...
He had quite a bit of help with the script for the original Star Wars (something I learned to my surprise several years ago)

3. I was under the impression that "Star Wars", like all of the second
trilogy, was all his. I know "Empire" was written by a professional screenwriter (which accounts for it being the best of the series, of course). And the novelization of the first film was ghosted by Alan Dean Foster under Lucas name. But I believe the screenplay for the first film is all his. Dunno. Could be wrong.

6. I thought so too
Then a Canadian friend of mine told me of a book about the movie (one sanctioned by 20th-Century Fox--it wasn't muckraking or anything). I got a copy of the book, and buried in the text were the names of the people who polished the script. Three people, IIRC.

Can't remember the title of the book, but I definitely remember confirming what my friend said. I still have the book, but it's in storage.

5. He did write "American Graffiti" on his own
And it's a great script. I think this is because it was so deeply personal for him - it's drawn from experiences he, and his audience, could relate to. From a directing/writing/acting standpoint, it remains his masterwork (although for my own sentimental reasons, the original "Star Wars" will always be my favorite). :-)
