Wanted to see Hollywoodland, Black Dahlia & All Kings Men but I read the

reviews, and the urge has passed. Sigh.Movies just don't seem like movies anymore.

I don't like kids movies like LOTR or animated blockbusters.
Horror movies are usually hyped sadistic affairs.
Dumb comedy bathroom humor films are for thirteen yr olds.
Romatic comedies rarely deliver.

No one makes good crime/suspense anymore.
I am sort of interested in Little Miss Sunshine but it seems gone already.
I am getting old. Time to read more books I guess.

One of my favorite movies...ever! Some of the best money you'll ever spend. I think it's going to be considered a cult classic one day.

The acting was so good. Great characters. Great ensemble performace. Film was not perfect but it really had a special energy. There were a lot of tender moments. Can't remember last time I was in a theatre where folks laughed hard. It seemed to end abrubtly. And it was quite a short film. I'd give it three stars.

13. "All The King's Men" is a must see movie for me.

I loved the book ...in fact Robert Penn Warren was born and lived about 8 miles from my home in Kentucky. I knew his brother and niece, but never got to meet him.

But there is so much in that story...wow.

We have a really sucky critic in our paper, if he hates the movie I KNOW I want to see it.

The NPR critics Loved it by the way.

It has long been one of my all-time favorite novels, and I was excited to learn about the remake. The script was written by a former student and protege of Warren, and according to the L.A. Times, he does a great job of nailing the subtleties of the text. Plus, with fantastic acting and directing, I think we can have a non-controversial, well-deserved contender come springtime. :-)

27. Crash was awesome! We discussed it as a Sunday School program

seriously. We watched clips, and talked about this movie for 2 class periods.
Let by one of our ministerial staff. No language editing either.

So I rented it and watched it twice in preparation for the class, and was bowled over. It was SO not on my list of things I thought I wanted to see..and boy was I glad I finally did see it.

looks like a great role for Penn. I'd go see it! I decide for myself, the reviews can be wrong. At worst, reread the book!

I'd see it because of Sean Penn since I've always liked him. Fast Times and the pizza delivery. So funny. The Falcon and the Snowman. Yep! Nice hair!!

plus you get to see Penn playing Huey Long and if you want the progressive ideas to get out there and.....well let's just say that WE could really use a man like Huey Long agaaaaain...

Black Dahlia is interesting as it shows how the press can fully create whatever they want to just like Hollywood.

It's not really so much a "story" as it was a character study of a couple of characters. But seeing the film does make some things clearer. I remember as a child when the "whole story" was that "Superman" of the TV show committed suicide because he actually thought he was Superman. But in my childhood, iirc, it was said he jumped off the roof of a building.

Having a little more known about George Reeves made him more human to me. But like you said, there could have been a far more indepth story rather than just a loosely connected melodrama. However, what we got was decent enough, and certainly an eye-opener.

I saw the orignal...with Broderick Crawford and Mercedes McCambridge. It was and still is superb.

I do not understand why Hollywood has to remake perfectly good films. Entirely pointless.

Now some films should just not be touched:

African Queen
GWTW
Godfather (s)


but I would enjoy remakes of things like Arsenic & Old Lace or Harvey,
or the Topper, Thin Man, other screwball comedies with current actors.

I can totally see Hugh Grant playing Mortimer in Arsenic etc. But who would play Uncle Teddy?
