3. The ding-dong song
Ding dong! merrily on high,
In heav'n the bells are ringing:
Ding dong! verily the sky
Is riv'n with angel singing.
Gloria, Hosanna in excelsis!

E'en so here below, below,
Let steeple bells be swungen,
And "Io, io, io!"
By priest and people sungen. Refrain

Pray you, dutifully prime
Your matin chime, ye ringers;
May you beautifully rime
Your evetime song, ye singers. Refrain

By Yorgi Yorgensson. Stuck in my head every year; as someone of Swedish/Norwegian descent, I grew up with it. Not Christmas without it!

9. Here's some lyrics. Enjoy.
Oh I yust go nuts at Christmas.
On that yolly holiday.
I go in the red, like a knucklehead, as I squander all my pay. . .
I bought a nightgown for my vife,
A black one trimmed in red.
I didn't know her size and so,
She gets a carpet sveeper instead!

It must be available on line. Check it out. It is hilarious.

Edited on Mon Dec-22-03 03:56 PM by ribofunk
You were referring to "We Just Go Nuts at Christmas Time" by They Might be Giants:
Up the driveway, down the walk
Oh, Janet's hair is like her mom's
Who's got her own, but acts like something's
Different from the eyebrows up

Seems like only yesterday
Our D-I-V-O-R-C-E
I love you both and Yuletide is pure
H-E-double-L for me

And we just go nuts at Christmastime
That's when everything falls apart
We just go nuts at Christmastime
But it's another year before we're together again

27. A weird one
My choir just pulled off an excellent (thank you! thank you!) English-style Lessons and Carols service, and one of the carols we learned for it, "Bethlehem Down," has been stuck in my head for days. Fortunately, it's a lovely tune, by the 1920s English composer Peter Warlock, but still...

"When he is king, we will give him a king's gifts,
Myrrh for its sweetness and gold for a crown,
Beautiful robes," said the young girl to Joseph
Fair with her first-born on Bethlehem Down.

Bethlehem Down is full of the starlight
Winds for the spices, and stars for the gold,
Mary for sleep, and for lullaby music
Songs of a shepherd by Bethlehem fold.

When he is King they will clothe him in grave sheets,
Myrrh for embalming, and wood for a crown,
He that lies now in the white arms of Mary,
Sleeping so lightly on Bethlehem Down.

Here he has peace and a short while for dreaming
Close huddled oxen to keep him from cold,
Mary for love, and for lullaby music
Songs of a shepherd by Bethlehem fold.

31. Father Christmas
The Kinks.

When I was small I believed in Santa Claus
Though I knew it was my dad
And I would hang up my stocking at Christmas
Open my presents and I'd be glad

But the last time I played Father Christmas
I stood outside a department store
A gang of kids came over and mugged me
And knocked my reindeer to the floor

They said:
Father Christmas, give us some money
Don't mess around with those silly toys.
We'll beat you up if you don't hand it over
We want your bread so don't make us annoyed
Give all the toys to the little rich boys

Don't give my brother a Steve Austin outfit
Don't give my sister a cuddly toy
We don't want a jigsaw or monopoly money
We only want the real McCoy

Father Christmas, give us some money
We'll beat you up if you make us annoyed
Father Christmas, give us some money
Don't mess around with those silly toys

But give my daddy a job 'cause he needs one
He's got lots of mouths to feed
But if you've got one, I'll have a machine gun
So I can scare all the kids down the street

Father Christmas, give us some money
We got no time for your silly toys
We'll beat you up if you don't hand it over
Give all the toys to the little rich boys

Have yourself a merry merry Christmas
Have yourself a good time
But remember the kids who got nothin'
While you're drinkin' down your wine

Father Christmas, give us some money
We got no time for your silly toys
We'll beat you up if you don't hand it over
We want your bread, so don't make us annoyed
Give all the toys to the little rich boys

36. I went nuts one christmas when I heard this song.
It started out as just a little jingle.
But as the day went in I heared it once again,
It started out low ans soft I could hardly hear the word.
I looked are round to see if any caralors were near.
I looked left I looked right Byt spyed not a one.
Then I realized the song was not from around me byt was in side my head. I Tryed to block it out but had no sucess.Soon I found my self humming the tune, and as it is at Yule Tide a hum is an infectouse thing, From this song I could not hide Every where I went it was there.
Humming and Humming again .I rant to my room and hid under my bed.Untl the little men in i white coats off to the hospital led..

39. Christmas Is ...
The Percy Faith Singers had a big hit with it in 1966, but it's been infrequently played lately. I like the song, though, so it's not a big deal that I get it stuck in my head.

Usually it gets stuck in my head around July or August.

I also like Christmas Rapping and Father Christmas but haven't heard either of them so far, not even once! What gives?

AND ... some hard-rockin' chick should do a modern version of There's Always Tomorrow, the song Clarice the Reindeer sang in Rankin-Bass' Rudolph. Sorta like the Pretenders and Chrissie Hynde did with 2000 Miles and Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.

Just my 20 millibucks.
