Poll question: Who would you vote for: Caesar or Cicero?
Caesar

Pros: He's a member of the populares party, more radical and anti-conservative than the opposition. Wants to shake up the state so the people who've been getting fat off it have to spread the wealth. He's an excellent politician and an ingenious general.

Cons: He's really in it for himself. Wants to be crowned emperor.

Cicero

Pros: He wants to save the Republic, prevent an Empire from being established. He believes in laws, not men. Also a humane governor in Sicily and Greece.

Cons: He's willing to break laws to save them. His attempts to save the Republic result in a major crackdown on members of Caesar's party. Also double-dealing and capable of being flattered into abandoning principles and a member of the most conservative party in Rome.

5. My heart wants to go for Caesar
since I'm an inept little proto-fascist shit that simply loves being repressed and organized (that is, I'm a centrist). But then again, I'm an American and therefore susceptible to nearly any well-planned rhetorical performance, and Cicero is, after all, a master rhetorician and rhetor - haven't seen the likes stylistically since Theophrastus rocked the house with the Peripatetic Crew - so I'll almost certainly be swayed by his the sweetness of his style. ;-)

6. Poor Cicero needs a better PR guy than me.
I made him sound awful. Then again, so did Anthony Everitt's biography of him!

9. I won't vote for either.
And in ancient Rome, there was a Green party (well, it was involved in chariot racing, but still ...).
