I don't provoke people just to provoke people, but I generally won't back down just to avoid conflict. I'll start conversations I suspect will get heated if I think it's worthwhile to discuss the subject or that people need to clear the air. Some conflict avoidant people get really bothered by that.

One of my issues is: People challenging my integrity or basically insinuating I'm lying. I'll take on the challenge, only to have it get out of hand. It's as if some people can dish it out, but they can't take it. I have a really hard time simply keeping my mouth shut when someone suggests I'm lying about something.

My husband is the opposite. He's a very patient man who just waits until people apologize to him...sometimes years! But, I don't. If someone tells me I'm not speaking truthfully I have a hard time just "turning the other cheek."

Usually by my bosses. The boredom of working in a factory demands practical jokes. Put me with a like minded co-worker, and look out.

...It makes it easier for them to trivialise and condescend to you when you make them uncomfortable with hard truths. Women have endured this from men forever--not me personally, because I'm 6'1" and now I'm old no one would dare condescend to me. But this isn't an entirely masculine thing--altho men tend to compartmentalise people in order to have a semblance of control over chaos.

But you see? It's much easier to call you a "troublemaker" than to actually LISTEN to you or respect your point of view. Especially if it's contrary to theirs.

But it sounds like it came from someone you respect, which really stings. I'm sorry--but remember, the same rule applies: you told her something she didn't want to hear, and instead of acknowledging her own insecurity or fear, she compartmentalised you in order to dismiss it.

...by the Mother Superior of my Catholic school. It was 1971, I was in 4th grade at the time, and I'd just landed a milk carton square on the head of one of the more hated nuns, three floors below me in the stairwell.

I think of myself less as a troublemaker and more as a trendsetter. My jihad against the evils of Christianity had Osama beat by 20 years.

Even in the Navy. When it came time for the re-enlistment talk, I made it very plain why I would not. I was told I had a bad attitude. I suggested that not all bad attitudes come out of a vacuum. The E-6 disagreed.

He's rejected the establishment completely.
And I know for sure that he's never held a job.
He just goes from town to town
stirring up the young folks
until they're nothing but a disrespectful mob.

And I know he's never joined the army
and served his country like we all have done.
He'd rather wear his sandals and his flowers
while others wage the war that must be won.

They arrested him last week and found him guilty
and sentenced him to die.
But that's no great loss.

Friday they will take him to a place called Cavalry
and hang that troublemaker to a cross.
