especially roast chicken & mashed potatoes with gravy.

Don't eat it very much, but the bestest comfort food.

Now I want to listen to Root Boy Slim's

Xmas at K-Mart

Jams Rocked, want to find the lyrics to share with DU, Root Boy Slim (Foster MacKenzie) has been dead for 13 years, but he was GOD.

I yearn for originals like him, the artists today like sampling, over-dubs, over-singing, no originality.

This guy was one of a kind - on the realm of a Frank Zappa, but not lik eFrank Zappa.

Root Boy had Funk, Groove, Blues, Rock.

Definitely a WDC native, had it all

9. Pot roast with smashed taters and brown gravy...
Or, alternately, fried chicken with smashed taters and pan gravy and either biscuits or cornbread...

Damn...now I'm hungry.

I see one of 'em in my future. Tomorrow's my day off.

:D

12. Nah....
I dip in it flour, garlic, salt, pepper, paprika and a little cayenne pepper. Then in milk/egg/mayo mixture and them back in the flour mixture.

Corn flakes are too healthy.

Besides...gotta get that gravy....

Yummmmmmm

21. Low Gravy
As the Chenille Sisters would call it.

My spouse licks chops every time I make gravy with something fried...not very often these days.

Chicken - Fried

soak chicken in buttermilk for at least 2 hours

Heat 1 1/2 inches of oil (canola/peanut/vegetable) to 375 degrees in pan

salt/pepper chicken

dredge in flour

dredge in egg wash

dredge in flour/cornflake/grapenut flakes mix

put chicken in pan skin side down, let chicken cook for at least 15 minutes.

Refrain from turning the chicken multiple times, at the crust will fall into the pan.

Optimum cook time for chicken 40-45 minutes.

I guess that is the southerner calling out, even though I am a from MD.

Great comfort food, home made mac & cheese, mashed potatoes, pumpkn pie, rice pudding, guess I'm too old.

Cold or rainy weather, great foods
