Anyone else watch that lame Christmas movie last night..Xmas Shoes
Edited on Mon Dec-22-03 07:21 PM by SoCalDem
They are really scraping the bottom of the barrel.. I admit I watched it..I was too lazy to look for anything else to watch, and would never watch Titanic..

There were so many things wrong with that movie, I can't beleive that anyone spent the money to make it..

It seems as though someone MUST die , or it's just not a Christmas movie..:eyes:..

The tired old story of "Dad working too hard to enjoy his life" has been done to death and Rob Lowe was not in the least a sympathetic character.. No one cared that he was missing his daughter's life..Supposedly he was working so hard to save the farmer's land, but that didn't even fly, since he seemed to have no empathy for them either..

The only interesting part of the story was the relationship between the teacher and his mother.. That would have been a good story..

The young mother who died, and the stupid dancing shoes.. utter schmaltz.. ...

Now I know why I usually avoid "theme" movies like the plague..

1. I tried to watch it but quit
Horrible. Absolutely horrible. The Rob Lowe character was such a stereotype.

But maybe the reason the TV movies are so simple these days is because the population is, too. Everything has to be black and white or they don't understand it, just like our "manly man" leader, gwb.

Soon we will all be watching back-to-back Austin Powers re-runs.

2. We loved it.
I watched it with my wife & son, and we were all in tears by the end. But we kinda knew what was up, because the movie was based on a song that was popular a year or two ago.

To each his own, I guess.

But for the record, "A Christmas Story" is still the kind of Christmas movie I really like. What a riot!

4. Maybe it was the casting..
It just could have been better.. the "cuts" were so obvious, and it was overly done for my taste..

It's like the killed the mother so that there would be a reason for him to "meet" the grown up kid at the cemetary..

Even then, he had not changed enough, so that the kid would not have recognized him as the man who bought the shoes..

Seeing the little boy "changed" him, but there was only a few minutes of that, and far too much spent on the suffering of the little boy..

The boy's Dad seemed to not support the kid much either.. Knowing that his mother was dying, he should have seen to it that the kid had a chance ti buy a gift for her. The kid should not have had to wander around alone on Christmas Eve to go shopping..

It just "missed" on so many levels..

I never heard the song, so I didn;t know the basis for the story.. Was it a country/western song?? (Gloom & Doom?)

5. No, I think it was actually contemporary Christian
That's mostly what my wife listens to (I'm more of a classic rock guy -- late 60's and early 70's).

If I can get the link to work, you can listen to an MP3 and form your own opinion. It's the 3rd song on the page.

3. My mom did
and got all choked up telling me about it. She and my step-dad are suckers for tear jerker movies.

Love that dancing green thing on your sig line.
