Wouldn't that be the greatest thing? Like maybe a list of local pubs where you could log on to their website and purchase a coupon for a free beer that they would email to whoever you wanted. Is there an association of bar owners that I could bring onboard with this idea?

Say that there's someone on a message board that you're not good enough friends with to know their address. If you have their email address, you should be able to go to www.buymeabeer.com (fake website, btw), and purchase them a free beer coupon that they can redeem at their local watering hole.

I seriously think that this is an idea that is worth looking into.

The Town Fryer here has a thing where you can buy a beer for a regular who isn't there, it just goes up on a board, and when you go in, you can check if anyone treated you in absentia. I'll bet there'd be a way to get bars to participate in that in a nation, online kind of way.
