Hubby has a piece of country ham in the fridge---that's the weirdest thing in there. :rofl: In the freezer, a boob ice pack from when I had a biopsy three years ago. :rofl: It's small and fits into a little sock thing you can put in your bra. I needed it at the time, but it makes a great ice pack in a lunch cooler now. :P

My wife wanted some cow horn to use in making some jewellery, so she asked a friend who works at an abatoir if he could bring her some.

The next day, she had some bloody cow horns in a plastic bag on the door handle. She quickly threw the bag in the freezer, hasn't touched them since (a month ago).

Apparently, it's a three-day process of scooping out flesh and bleaching to make them usable as bone ornaments.

I'm not looking forward to this.

that puts oil stain to shame. Most high end Mission and Arts and Craft oak pieces were fumed.The ammonia fumes reacts with the tannin in white oak (one of the few woods high in tannin) and produces a wonderful natural warm shade of brown. The chemical action also penetrates the wood a quarter inch or more, depending how long the piece sits in the fuming booth, so it lasts a lifetime and is more resistent to fading then stains.

Indeed, it's nasty stuff until it gasses off. After is gasses off, I drag out the wax and get to work to create a lasting finish that makes lacquer finishes look like rank amateur crap.

Scenes from the movie were filmed at the Gamble House in Pasadena. The house is chuck full of Green and Green Arts and Crafts furniture (although Doc Brown's lab (the garage) was the focal point of most scenes at the house), or that TV program, NUMB3RS; Pop's house is entirely furnished with Arts and Crafts furniture. It's all around and you've seen it before, it's just not a period design that screams at most people like, say, Art Deco.

62. freezer -- part of a toad's left rear leg, and a small hummingbird

The toad part showed up in a bag of frozen green beans, and I was hoping to get around to trying to ID the species sometime. (Waiting for a visit from my ex-roomie, who got her Master's in zoology, and has all the appropriate books.)

The hummingbird was found under a plate glass window. When I lived back east, I got into the habit of saving window-killed birds as replacements for the deteriorating Victorian-era collection at the museum where I used to work. (They even had a passenger pigeon, which sadly is not replaceable!) Out of habit, I put the hummingbird (a female Anna's, I think) into an old margarine container and stashed it in my freezer, to take with me next time I visit my folks and former workplace. The bird is so tiny that at this rate it's going to be practically mummified by the time I get back there.

p.s. almost forgot -- in the fridge, a vial of coriander seeds, given to me by an agricultural researcher who just got back from Afghanistan. There are some grains at the bottom of it, which I suspect might be wheat, and might be interesting to try growing (the area is very remote, so these might pre-date the Green Revolution).

A bunch of carbonate samples from the Antarctic (not mine -- one of the other grad students). And some of those Jolly Rancher freezer pops. The carbonate, I suspect, is more biological than those pops (dyes and flavors unknown to nature!).
