2. Drink purified water for better health
We like Rain Fresh here in Dallas. Here's their story:
Rain Fresh Water falls under the category of a purified water. The process is set up to mimic the steps in the hydrological cycle which God set up to ensure the purity of water. Because we have been seriously polluting the earth (especially since the Industrial Revolution) we have upset the balance of nature in many ways. For example we now find PCB’s in penguins in the Antarctic. How did they get there? When we started Rain Fresh in East Texas we tested waters from a well on a ranch that raised exotic animals. High levels of many dangerous chemicals were present. The prospective customer thought we were using scare tactics to sell him a water treatment system. We learned later that a chemical plant in the area had been using deep-injection waste disposal presumably hoping that if it deposited deep enough into the earth contamination would be contained. It is because pollution is widespread on many fronts that we use a very involved process to treat the water for a variety of contaminants. Please see details... http://www.rain-fresh.com/content/choosing.htm

3. Don't drink distilled
no minerals in it at all.

Filtered is much better.

(I haven't drank tap water since the 80's...same problem. More like bleach than water. I saw in the paper that my municipal water will start to be treated with UV light in the near future. Hopefully that will eliminate some, if not all, of the bleachy taste and smell)

8. Interesting.
UV light on water. Must look into that.

If I get minerals in my diet from beans, legumes, nuts, seeds, vegetables, fruit, and whole grains, will I be okay?

I don't know.

Were our bodies created to get minerals from water?

9. No, you won't
The issue is not getting minerals from water, it's osmosis. Water passes through permeable membranes in order to keep the basic concentration of salt equal on both sides. (Salt, from a chemical point of view, are ions like sodium, potassium, chlorine, etc.) Tap water (and rain water, and all fresh water) contains a certain concentration of these salts. So does your blood and the fluid in all of your cells. If you drink distilled water, which has no salt in it, your blood becomes too dilute. To compensate, water moves into your cells to balance the salt concentration. If too much moves into your cells, they explode like a balloon.

It's the opposite of why you shouldn't drink sea water. In that case, there's too much salt in the water and water will flow out of your cells and they will shrivel up and die.

Gatorate is the best hydration liquid because it is isotonic--ie, it has the exact same concentration of salts as your blood, extracellular fluid and cellular fluid.

5. So I don't really need to bleach my sink,
I can just run the tap for awhile?

6. I don't know.
I heard that there was some Orange Julius soap out there somewhere that works just as good.

;)

7. Drinking distilled water could kill you
I'm guessing that's not what you're actually drinking, but if you are, don't. It is hypertonic and will cause your cells to explode, which I imagine wouldn't feel too great. Seriously, though, don't drink it.

12. Well, can't he get his necessary salt from other sources?
I've never heard of anyone suffering physical harm from distilled water.

13. Then Why Did My Nephrologist Tell Me To Drink Distilled Water?
I know my urologist is trying to kill me (gave me Urised, and I'm nephrotic) but my nephrologist is okay... The stuff I drink does have added electrolytes, but even when I drink the .99/gal stuff, my cells do not explode.

16. No, they don't mean DI, I think. I'm pretty sure, anyway.
Edited on Mon Sep-25-06 08:55 AM by Random_Australian
Edit: DI refers to de-ionised water. I have been doing too much chemistry lately if I am using the shorthand like that!

14. overpopulation
Clorine is put in water to kill cholera, a germ that lives in human waste. If you taste clorine in water it is because we have become so overpopulated that the only way we can survive is to drink out own chemical-treated sewerage.
