Customers Fight Over New Elmo Doll At Target
Edited on Mon Sep-25-06 08:11 AM by matcom
<snip>

TAMPA, Fla. -- Even Elmo isn't laughing about this one.

A man called 9-1-1 after, he said, another man threatened his life over an Elmo doll.

Tampa police received the call around 8:00am Friday, just as customers were flocking to Target to scoop up the popular TMX Elmo, who slaps its knee, falls over and rolls around laughing when it's tickled.

According to 9-1-1 tapes, Andrew Bell said a man dressed in all black threatened him because he took one of the last dolls. Bell said a few dolls were still on the shelves and several people were running into the store to grab them.

When the man dressed in black didn't get one, Bell said, the man said he would kill him if he ever showed up at the store again. Bell said the man also had a loaded pistol.

No one has been charged in the incident.

The dolls, which cost about $35, were unveiled Tuesday. A Fisher-Price spokeswoman said the doll has received unprecedented media coverage consumers had been snatching them up. She said there is no need for panic because more dolls are on the way.

2. No need to panic, because more dolls are en route,
but perhaps the unstable wannabe ninja with a gun might be a valid reason for feeling uneasy, dontcha think, Ms. Fisher-Price Mouthpiece?

3. So it's come to this - people threatening each other for toys.
Unbelievable.
