I went through a "lovely" bout of breast cancer, starting in Jan., chemo end end in late April, and I still need to lose at least 30 lbs! How did you do this! Please let me know. And I'm so happy for you now...you seem so much happier.

Anti-depressants! That's how I did it... so I'm skinnier and happier!
Well, that's sort of it... I had to begin meds to deal with my OCD. I can't drink on the meds so I think that lost alot of weight... plus not being batshit nuts anymore probably helped me digest food better. And the meds suppress your appetite a bit. Also, I've begun eating more meals in smaller portions a day. So instead of three big meals I'll have like six little ones.
Glad your breast cancer turned out well.

182. Um ... actually that photo was taken when I was 23 --

which was 33 years ago! I started riding "for real" when I was 7 or 8 and got my first horse of my very own.

She was a retired thoroughbred, 19 hands tall, and I had no saddle (was lucky to have a bridle!) so I had to figure out how to mount her bareback. Not to mention learning how to remain astride her once I got there! :rofl:

I guess I was a "natural," though. Loved horses all my life ... Mom even says she thinks it was one of the first words I spoke as a toddler. She says I would point to horses in pastures alongside the road when we were in the car, and say, "Horsie! Horsie!"

I began begging for one very early on, and Dad told me when I was about five that if I would work real hard, save my money, and be real good, he would help me get one when I had enough saved up. He never dreamed I would achieve that goal by the time I was 7 ... then he had to follow through on his promise!

Princess the thoroughbred was reasonably gentle (tho a bit barn-sour), and I would stand her in the yard, take a running start toward her and then grab her withers with my left hand and vault up onto her back. It was my dream come true to ride off into the sunset, escaping all my troubles and living my fantasy of being a real Wild West cowgirl.

Dad sold Princess and her half-Shetland foal Dusty, just as Dusty was coming-two-year-old and ready to start riding. Said we couldn't afford them any longer, but I knew I was paying for all their feed. He ran them thru the sale ring, got $160 for the pair, and immediately bought a new roto-tiller for his garden, which cost $150. "You do the math," as they say....

I never got over my love of horses, and every time I'd lose one for whatever reason, I'd immediately start saving for my next one! :) I've owned about a dozen in my long life, always just one at a time, but one was enough.

From this you can see why I refer to that photo as "the real Vicki." :blush:

To be fair, though, here's a more recent snapshot of me just after I bought the motorhome I live in:

And here's one from last month on a typical morning just after dawn, tending to my flowerbeds:

Complete with knee brace(s), wrist brace(s), and about ten pounds more weight than now, since I've been bicycling a lot lately, walking Bebo more, and eating much better.

Ah, for the days when I could spring onto a horse's back in a flash and streak off bareback and barefoot for a 20-mile ride without even having to think about it! :)

Didn't mean to mislead anyone with the riding pic first, it just takes me a little while to work up the nerve to reveal the "shadow of the old me" I have to live with now. :hi:
