How do I keep some STUPID neighbor's dog out of my trash?!

They're gone alot, and I swear they never keep this dog on a leash or in their house, and no matter what I do, it gets into my trash can and tears through my garbage, flinging it all over my yard. I woke up with a sore throat and wretched body aches this morning, and then I look outside and find that the dog had gotten to my trash AGAIN, despite the fact that I'd piled a big rock on top of the lid, last night. I am getting SO pissed off. Idiot people.

2. You can buy trash bins that latch securely

with latches that animals cannot open. They're big, and kind of expensive, but it may be worth it.

I don't really blame the dog, I'm pissed at the owners, and while I'm not really a pet person, I don't want to see a animal unnecessarily euthanized.

maybe just put some in the bottom of the can and a couple on top. They really hate the smell of mothballs and it will probably cover up everthing else in the trash.

13. There is a humane nonaerosol spray called "Scram!" that is safe to use

in areas like that. It's all natural with cayenne pepper oil in it, and it keeps wild animals and dogs and cats away from wherever you spray it. Animals don't like to go near it, and if they do actually get in it for some reason, it just makes their paws tingle a little with no harmful effects. We got it at a pet supply store a few years ago at the recommendation of our vet, and we've used it on our freshly planted garden to keep Vicki (our curious mutt) out of there. It works great! We also used it to keep rabbits from eating our squash blossoms too. :)

Depending on the size of the dog, he/she may not be able to knock it over. With a big rock on top of it, he shouldn't be able to flip the lid off, either.

Your trashman isn't likely to try tossing the entire bin into the truck (thereby costing you some cinderblocks), but will rather pull the trash out by the handles (assuming, I know) with that excess weight in there.

Caveat: you'll have to draaaaag the trash to the streetside or what have you.

THEN, problem solved, talk to your neighbor anyway. Dogs shouldn't be roaming free at night. Nasty things can happen to them, and at times, they can do nasty things to people and their property.

19. We had a problem with a neighbor's dog

taking its morning dump in our backyard, every morning. We have spoken to the neighbors but to no avail... it may not be their dog. As a desperate measure we pulled out the high-frequency sound machine we bought years ago to deter wild animals from digging in our garden. It didn't work for the wild animals back then, but it worked like a charm on the dog. The poop just stopped appearing.

the scent from those, but that hasn't deterred him. I also made the mistake of leaving the cover off the kids' sandbox one night, and the neighborhood cats wasted NO time in using that as a litter box.:eyes:

27. An asshat neighbor used to let his dog out in the A.M to crap on all the

lawns in the neighborhood. Fed up, I lured the dog into my garage with food and let him come in the houes. He watched football on TV with me all day, asleep at my feet while my neighbor freaked out searching for him. I let him out at dusk. Neighbor never let his dog out again off leash. Of course I would never advise you to kidnap your neighbors dog.

30. Just sprinkle some cayenne pepper on your garbage

under the lid. It won't do any permanent damage to the dog, and he will sure remember the snootful of pepper he will get when he comes sniffing around.

Pour a couple of big splashes of ammonia on top of the trash before you put on the lid. If the dog gets the lid off, he will get a snoot full of the ammonia smell and leave it alone.

If that doesn't work, try anti-freeze.

I got tired of the "wild" dogs and when I was in the dollar store I looked for the most stinkedist(?) thing in a can. I ended getting some generic toilet bowl spray. I stinks a lot and works too!

with trip wire, rig up some flood lights and loud sirens that will go off in the event of hostiles coming under the wire.
