I present, Lord Tonka of Bratwurst... (yes, another kitten thread)

I posted a silly picture of his highness a few weeks back, I finally got him to sit still (and one snuck up on) for some decent pictures. We found him just before we moved, and he was a mess, skinny as a fence rail and with a MOUTH (and still carrying his equipment) that you could hear from one end of the house to the other.. that distinctive Siamese mouth to be specific. We caught him (harrumph.. 'caught', read as 'opened door and he sauntered in and made himself at home) and calmed him down some, it was obvious he had been out on his own a while, ratty fur, bunca burrs and such, but not too long because he was a love bug and didn't mind people at all, some other cat resentment, but no knock-down drag outs. I estimate his age at 1-3 years. Well, we took him to the vet for a good going over, re-equip him with a water pistol and board while we moved (that was a story in itself that we did in in less than 72 hours TOTALLY) the other furr stayed with a friend.

He was so skinny that I wasn't even sure what he was. He markings seemed to be Tonkinese.. so he was dubbed Tonka. LITTLE DID I KNOW that after he came home from the vet, now that his agressive gland was gone, that he would spend the next three weeks EATING. I swear, I've seen Black Angus graze on a more restrained schedule! As he 'blossomed' the distinctive shape of the British Shorthair came out, the round head, the broad beam to the rear, the huge paws...

Why in the name of ghod would someone toss out (as the people at the vet's office called him) this "handsome boy" into the wilds to fight and most likely die at the teeth of some hound.. I'm so glad he wandered up to our door finally (three more days and we would have been gone). Now that he's been 'adjusted', he's a joy, a teddy-bear, gets along with all the other furr and steals my place in bed every night till I shove him over. His only quirk - he dosn't purr. He TRIES to, but all that comes out is a 'hfff.. hfff.. hfff'. Makes me wonder if the's had some injury to the throat, I'll take him back to the vet next month to have that checked out...

But WHY BRATWURST I hear you cry? Well, let's zoom back a bit on that last shot



Look at that color, look at those markings, look at that PUDGE! If that's not an overstuffed Bratwurst I don't know what is.

..then he's the happiest in the world I think!

I still can't get over that someone would just toss him out. I suppose the large neon sign over the house that says "SUCKERS" (the one only cats can see) helped him find his way...

4. Oh my gawd, he is awesome!

For some reason, I'm picturing him as a human (maybe Henry VIII?), presiding over his long table, waving his giant leg of mutton, and ordering the wenches to bring him more more more!

5. Heh... gives me an idea for Halloween...

but he's a bug, I laid down for a nap earlier and when I woke up, he was stretched out beside me, snuggled up on my arm, laying on his back with this front paws up like a praying mantis and the back spread-eagle. His furr is the softest i've ever felt.. kinda like a nap of velvet....

9. Yes, skinny...

.. when we found him he weighed all of 3 pounds (at the vet), skin stretched over bones and long haggered face. I don't know how long it had been since he ate before he sauntered in. He ate some, but wouldn't eat much, drank water like it was going out of style. I don't know what happened to him, but after we got him back, he may have lost his six-shooter, but found his appetite! He's about 11 pounds now and seems to have leveled off (until I make shrimp curry, then he finds the ability to levitate to the kitchen island and start swiping shrimp).

I'm REALLY suprised how well he gets along with everyone else, no spewing, spitting, swatting or fighting.. he's mister docile.

10. No, took him about 2, 2 1/2 months to bulk up...

I'll have to see if I have an 'overhead' shot of him grazing... looks likes a tadpole...

8. He is indeed a regal looking beast

who'd look good in a starched collar and cravat of cat fashion.

When I was a kid our Swiss neighbors had a cat named "Wurst". I don't recall his weight (if I ever knew it) but their toddler rode him like a horse & he didn't object. I assume you won't allow your Lord Tonka to be similarly abused...

11. The only way anyone will ride him...

.. will be if any more kittens arrive at the door (and I hope I've disconnected that damn sign). We have 9 now.. that's enough till we move (in the next year or so). Want to get a larger house and then I'll reconnect the sign.

And here I thought I had the record on DU with 8 (all but one a rescue). But then again, there's this poor little skinny, tortois shell that keeps sneaking in to feed while the other cats are napping . . . (sigh). I just can't stand it, I may have to 'mesticate him too.

13. That's the word people use most often... "handsome"...

it's that tawny coat with the brown highlights and those BLUE eyes (they don't show up nearly as blue as they are)

15. We've rescued every one of our herd...

.. either found sitting in the middle of the road out in the middle of nowhere, abandoned by their owners or kittens that appeared on our doorstep (I swear the mothership is dropping them) or a friend that can't keep them any more. Each and every one such a unique personality I hesitate to call them cats (four-footed fuzzy sentients is my most common term).

I can't turn down a fuzzy face, the wife won't let me in PetSmart "un-attended" least I wander over to the pet adoption area and try to fill up the back of the Element with new household members.

18. I've had a word with all concerned in the house...

.. and made it QUITE CLEAR that the house is full, so unless one of them want's to give up a sunny place to sleep or share a litter box, they better leave it UNCONNECTED!

(except in the case of them getting an emergency transmittion on the Walkie-Meowie that one is in desperate, dire straights... so far all is well).

I too have a full house (although not so many) as well as several other outdoor cats who have their bags packed, ready to move in should one of the indoor cats fail to meet their responsibilities.

.. the little shit had just polished of the better part middle of a pastrami sandwich I had made. (they work tag team now... Tiggy/Ziggy/Shyster & OJ distract me, he grabs the middle, takes his share and they get the rest).
