6. Not anytime soon
We will have to sit here and wait until it is patently obvious that everybody in the Euro is having a whale of a time, and then and only then will we sheepishly ask to join.

That's how it works with us and Europe.

14. Oh, sympathy from me
My car takes a funny sized tire, so it costs about $300 to put four regular everyday driving tires on it. x(

15. Tyres are so expensive
although I'm not sure if the cheap ones are much of an economy anyway, because I have doubts about how long they last.

17. A little tire story:
A guy I knew bought a used tire while he was out here on vacation, since he's spent most of his money having a good time. Then he set off for home and was speeding through the desert when the used tire blew. He rolled his new car. The $50 0r so he saved on a tire cost him about $10K.

Cheap tires make me very nervous. I figure if good ones give me a little more stopping power or handling and keep me out of an accident, they've paid for themselves many times over. Not to mention that we have the rainiest winters in the universe here, so I need to make sure they're good on slick roads.

18. I figure the el cheapo ones or remoulds are probably safe enough
So long as they're new. I just reckon they might wear out quicker than the premium ones. I wouldn't put a second hand tyre on my car though.

19. You people have Americanised me to a certain extent
but there are lines I will not cross. Writing "center," for example. Or using a z in "Americanised" is another. :P

21. You are inconsistent too
You don't write tabel, ladel, idel, etc. Do you? Even though they are pronounced that way.

English is inconsistent. Glory in it. :D

23. But you do insert the 'u' in
flavour, colour, etc. Right? :P

So sorry about your car, Billyskank.
Make sure you get good tires with deep
tread, though. You can't shortchange
yourself when it comes to tires and brakes!

26. It would be £450 pounds, ignoring inflation
Edited on Wed Sep-27-06 12:31 PM by billyskank
When they changed, £1 pre-decimalisation = £1 post-decimalisation. The only difference is that before, £1 was 240 old pennies, whereas now it is 100 new pennies.
