1. Probably not much longer.
The one you described sounds like what my husband calls "big stupid flies". :P That's because they get bigger and stupider as they get ready to die. Don't ask me why---that just seems to be the case. :P

2. I don't know, but we have fruit flies and they're driving me insane.
I've been trying to lure them to particular spots, so I can ambush them and vacuum them up. It's *sort of* working.

21. Put some shallow bowls of white zinfandel out when you go to bed
along with the bottle. They will drown in it. Really works. Seriously.

:hi:

How're doing, sweetie?

I'm doing pretty well. How about the Midlo clan? Is your husband back in action? Did you bid farewell to your extra housemate, yet?

27. Well, we actually got some not so good news at the doctor's today.
He went back to work, but is suffering profound fatigue. We went in at lunchtime thinking it was probably a medication issue, and they did what they call a limited echocardiogram.

Unfortunately, it showed that his heart hasn't gotten any stronger, so I am in a bit of funk right now.

I did manage to rid myself of the extra houseguest, so all is back to normal in that department.

And, last week, I cracked a tooth, burned my finger, had to rush Midlo teenager to the ER because she 'couldn't breathe' according to her trainer, and walked full blown into the sliding glass door off the kitchen and wound up with two black eyes.

I think I'll play the lottery tonight. It might be my turn.

28. Aieeegh!
That's one helluva nasty week, honey!

:-(

What's the next step for Mike? Did the doctors offer any insight as to why his heart's not rebounding better, and what he can do/ have done, to help it along?

I'm sorry. That's scary and a huge bummer. That poor guy needs a break. You all do.

29. Well, when the cardiologist reads the echo tomorrow,
he will tell us what his ejection fraction is. If it is 25 or below, he will need additional surgery to implant a defibrillator.

I think at this point, this is just psychologically so draining. I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop.

I imagine you are running on fumes, about now. It's amazing how exhausting emotional strain (particularly the long-term variety) can be. I hopehopehope it's better news tomorrow. Life can be such a seemingly endless blizzard of crap sometimes. x(

hundreds of them hiding in your house. As soon as one dies, they send out another.

11. I'm thinking it depends on the environment.
They don't last for long at all in my house. My cats dearly love a nice fly as a snack and will destroy anything that stands between them and their munchie.

15. Wow, they live a lot longer than I thought.
<snippage>
The adults live from half a month to a month in the wild, or longer in benign laboratory conditions.

16. Who tries these things?
Catching a fly might be difficult. Usually if you wet your hands with water and then try to catch the fly in a small room it is not a difficult task. However if you are trying to catch a fly in room with larger volume you could spray water on the fly using a spraying bottle commonly used to water delicate flowers in the garden. But the fly can still escape as the water evaporates from its body. The solution to this is using a soap-based water (for e.g., patio cleaner) in the spraying bottle. Once you spray the fly with the soapy solution the fly dies because of suffocation since it gets trapped in the soapy liquid. This method has been tried successfully. When the soapy solution dries you can see the fly dead at the spot it was earlier. Another method is to use common rubbing alchohol (isopropyl 70% or 99%). Put into a spray bottle and spray directed at or on the fly. This seems to be caustic to the fly and usually kills it within 1 minute. The alcohol will simply evaporate fairly quickly on most surfaces.

36. Two methods
The humane (during daylight)

Darken the room if possible
Open the outside door so it finds its way out....

The inhumane (any old time)

Spray them with hairspray extra hold stuff --granted you got a very good aim on them.

The wings get stiff and the sucker falls out of the sky....
