Can someone write up a primer on using Bit Torrent technology

In case you don't get any more info, I found that to be a rather easy client to use.

I am not particularly knowledgable but firewalls can make it a pain. Got to open a port or two to make it work well.

Haven't messed with it much since I got the cease and desist for d/l'ing the Sopranos.
