Flowers for Oneighty
I am sending a dozen red and yellow roses to his family tomorrow in DUs name. There is signicance to the yellow and red ( a color combination he loved)

Ed had willed his body to the University at Buffalo NY , and will be cremated and buried at sea at a later date, according to what he had told me.

Giving love to the very end , that is my sweet Ed.

Eds favorite charity was

Quaker Action
the paper he sent me (about a year ago) said to become a "friend for the future" to call 1-888-588-2372 ext 3 or e mail GiftPlanning@afse.org or a check to QuakerAction 1501 Cherry St Philadelphia Pa 19102-1403

if you want to honor him, make a contibution in his name. I am more than happy to send flowers in DUs name..

on the paper he wrote "Quakers are cool!"

The flowers will be lovely and I will send a donation to Quaker Action in his name. He has not been out of my mind since I came home yesterday and read your announcement. I am certain that is true for almost everyone of us. A wonderful man. Ed was cool!

Edward Alva Gard , for whom Ed was named was a Quaker "traveller" He was a huge influence in Eds life. It was from him that Ed learned many of his values

13. Here's his novella, "Kazuko":
Edited on Wed Sep-27-06 07:21 PM by pnorman
http://www.thenecessarylanguage.com/2006/01/kazuko.html I'd seen bits and pieces as well as references before, but it wasn't till early this morning that I searched it out and read it in entirety. It's still echoing in my mind, and I won't be able to read any more of his writings until those echoes fade to silence.

pnorman
On edit: In that novella, is a reference to a gasoline-powered machine used for supplying air to divers. It was referred to as a "jitterbug". Presumably, it's exhaust was referred to as "perfume". Was that just coincidental, or did that term have anything to doo with your distinctive name?

Ed sent me a copy and it is illustrated with some very nice photos. I will try to scan them if I can, there are some really great shots of Ed in that era. I will really miss him he was a great Duer and very talented and interesting man.

17. Please scan and post them!
On the other thread, I had suggested that the DU admins do something to "highlight" his writings here. They not only bring honor to DU, but they're noteworthy in their own right. Those photos also belong somewhere on DU.

I'll send a contribution in Ed's name, he told me what his burial plans were earlier this year, that the navy would drop his ashes at the 300 fathom mark.
He said it with amusement that it would be his deepest dive, and longest too.
That's one thing I'll carry with me until I make the journey that 180 is taking his longest and deepest dive.

31. I ordered the flowers this morning
a dozen roses , half red , half yellow to be delivered to his wife ,Tricia . the card says In memory of Ed from his friends at DU.

Ed had a yellow windbreaker jacket and a red hat that says "antique human" or something like that . It was a big joke to him

When he moved from his apartment because he could no longer do the stairs about a year ago his friend Joe built a room onto his house for him , and he decorated it in red and yellow. He said "Midget (his name for me)It is beautiful, and when I am gone it will be perfect for Rebecca " (his grand daughter)
