Facing My Fear By Going Out to Volunteer

I am going to do my best to combat my anxiety disorder and am going out to volunteer for the Democratic Congressional candidates in my area. My first day is Saturday on a literature drop.

I'm a bit nervous but excited to about this chance to help the cause and finally stand up for my beliefs with more than just words but action too. I just hope I feel courageous on that day and don't try to chicken out.

We are meeting at a coffee house first, so I will get a chance to meet some other Dems in the area. I am looking forward to that. I've missed hanging with like minded people in person.

I think if I hadn't had DU, I would have gone completely nuts during the last non-election. My Mom and my sister are both Dems too, but they just don't understand why I think politics are so important. They think you just live your life, do your job, and get by the best you can. They vote because I nag them to do so, but they really don't think it changes anything in the end, and they are educated women. It's kind of sad to me.

19. I was making a doctor appt. this week

and the woman gave me a date in November, and I asked if that was election day. She said she had no idea and that she didn't vote anymore after the last fiasco. I told her how important it was to vote, and I repeated it as she basically just ignored me and went on the the next appt. question. It was kind of sad. So, enthusiastic folks are needed to re-establish some level of trust with the political process. I can't believe people don't vote here and the Reps. encourage cynicism; meanwhile, we are supposedly fighting in the Middle East so that others can vote. :eyes:
