1. Maybe it's an immigrant
Better ask for its green card. Might be one of those dreaded illegals.

4. My office has a talking elevator like that.
I think the building owner thinks it makes the dump look more sophistimacated. Your bank probably believes you'd prefer to be ripped off by an nice polite British voice than a rude American one.

7. Foreigners, and their educated ways...
are now sophisticated to us hillbilly Americans...

Look at the Dr. Z commercials for Mercedes.

Or, the Dyson guy selling his own vacuums.

If you have an accent, it gives you a stamp of sophistication.

10. My credit union has a British ATM, too.
And the passenger tram at the Minneapolis airport is British as well. She says, very Britishly, "The tram is leaving the station. Please stand clear of the doors." In fact, I think it's the same voice. The tram is moonlighting as an ATM.

12. It's related to the shuttle train in the Minneapolis airport, which
also has a British accent.

However, when I was in England this summer, none of the mechanical objects had American accents.

13. I think my ATM should give up its British airport tram gig,
and that way we can get a real Minnesota airport tram that says, "So this thing's gonna get going now, so let's just stand clear of the doors, then, okay?"

16. I think "Marge" from the movie "Fargo" would be the perfect voice
of the MSP tram. None of that stuck-up British stuff, ya know.
