Do I get to start carbo-loading yet?? :D

Tomorrow, let the carbo-loading commence!! For tonite, it's get to bed early and rest up.....

I'll keep y'all posted on how I do, OK? :hi: Send good wishes for Strength, Protection and Endurance!! Thanks, everyone!!

11. Thanks, Peggy!!
Yeah, this will be the longest/farthest I've ridden in over 6 yrs, so it's a big deal, but I'm ready.

Sunscreen is definitely a must...as is the ADVIL! LOL! I'm already thinking of the hot tub afterwards, too. :D

http://www.scapsite.org/html/events/events_surfcity.html

just click on the 100 mile route box and you'll see the route we're taking. Basically, we go all over the damn place! :D Aptos, Corralitos, Aromas, San Juan Bautista, Salinas, Castroville...you get the picture...

Hey, are you coming to the meetup?? I've booked my room and lemme tell ya, Mama's stoked to be getting a whole weekend away to herself! :bounce: I'd love to meet you, hope you can make it! :hi:

17. You're gonna be about 10 miles from here
when you hit San Juan Bautista.

Where you stopping for lunch on Fourth Street? Abbe Park?

The Giants and Dodgers will be playing right about then, but I can't get it on teevee, so maybe I'll drive over. :hi:

I dunno yet about the meetup. I've got too many variables. Prolly won't know until the Monday before. :(

18. Sadly, I have no idea where exactly the lunch stop is.
I'm not that familiar with the area, so your guess is as good as mine. Sigh....

I do hope you can make it, we'll have some fun! :D Keep me posted. :hi:

19. Unless you guys are eating at restaurants
which I really doubt, because you'll be all sweaty and stuff, Abbe Park would be about the only place on Fourth Street where you could. It's a nice little park — nothin' to do there, really, unless there's a Little League game goin', in which case half the town turns out — but it has the prerequisite grass and trees, and I think maybe the odd picnic table.

Any idea what time you'll be gettin' there?

And, Jeebus — you guys are ridin' up San Juan Canyon?? You are nuts!

20. Yeah, I know!! Ya gotta wish me luck, buddy. I've never climbed that hill.
:D San Juan Grade is the only big climb on the whole damn ride, however and unfortunately, it's about at mile 50 and AFTER lunch, so that should be interesting!! Slow and steady.... We'll get there.

Regarding when we'll arrive, I have no idea....like you said earlier, many "variables" affect that...We'll see how it goes.

I guess we are crazy.

14. Yup, I have. Three of 'em...back when I was training for the CA AIDS Ride
then, of course the first two days of the AIDS Ride (from SF to LA, over a week) were like two back-to-back centuries, so I guess that counts, too. Day 1: SF to Santa Cruz: 92 miles
Day 2: Santa Cruz to King City: 102 miles.

Bottom line, yes, it can be done and it's just about "time in the saddle" and making sure your body is properly fueled through the whole thing, so one doesn't "bonk". That's bad.

Thanks for your good wishes! :hi:

7. I never did the carbo loading
although, to an extent, I am always carbo loading.

Have a good ride. I hope you have good weather, maybe a tailwind. Are you riding with somebody? How many riders does the event get, and do they all go 100 miles? Do they make you wear a helmet?

15. Check out the link I posted in post # 13.
Yes, I'm riding with both my husband and a girlfriend, with whome I've been training all summer. I think there will be about 700 of us, altogether, but not everybody is doing the full century. There's a 25 mile route, a metric century (62 miles) and the full century. Yes, helmets are mandatory on most organized rides!! I wouldn't think of riding without one, anyway. It saved my life in a fall a while back, so I'm a bit fanatic about it.

Thanks for your good wishes! The weather we're looking at at this point is early morning fog, maybe some drizzle, followed by clearing in the afternoon and temps in the low 70's. Shouldn't be too bad...

:hi: I'll definitely be posting about it, afterwards! Tonite: Italian food!! :9

8. Hey, awesome!
I hope you have a good time and have a chance to enjoy the countryside.

When I quit smoking I decided to ride across the state of Washington. I didnt know what it would be like. It ended up being more than a century a day for five days straight. When I got home I actually wighed 8 pounds more than when I began and I havent smoked since.

The 100-mile ride is something to apreciate.

:salute:

16. Wow, that's quite a story!! I'm sure the weight gain was all muscle!
 Good for you for taking control of your health and giving up the smoking!

I did the CA AIDS Ride back in 2000, from SF to LA, over a week. 575 miles. I trained for 6 mos to get ready. We were averaging about 80 miles a day, but the first two days were like back-to-back centuries. It's really amazing what the human body is capable of, isn't it??

Thanks for your good wishes, gkdmaths!! :hi:
