Sears just called...again...
Said our fridge can't be delivered because it's "damaged".

That's the second time it's happened. We tried to set up delivery for yesterday AM. They called and said the fridge was "damaged" and couldnt' be delivered then.

WTF's going on? Are all the appliances in their warehouse "damaged"?

Now we have to wait until Wednesday.

I *hate* Sears.

1. That's sears for ya..
and I worked for them for years! Years ago, I cancelled an entire kitchen's worth of appliances and made them come get them because the fools couldn't get it right. I only had received part of my stove(at the time it was their own Jenn air type and the burners I ordered were left out)and my fridge looked like it had been shot with buckshot. I never knew if the dishwasher was damaged or not because we never opened the box to put it in. It sat for a month while we waited to get the burners, that were ordered and reordered and never came..and this was over the Christmas holiday. Finally I'd had it and told them to take everything back. They offered me $100 to keep the $1500 dented fridge. I told them no way.

The last fridge we bought:

We checked at Sears..even the ones they had in stock would take a week to ten days to be delivered. We went to Lowes..had it the next day..on a Sunday no less and they took the old one for no extra charge. And..nothing was damaged..no dents, dings, scratches.

2. When they finally do deliver it,
check it completely against your order and make sure it's the one you paid for. They delivered a damaged washing machine to us several years ago and the replacement wasn't the same model -- it was a cheaper one. With all the confusion of moving into the house, etc., we didn't notice for several weeks. We were exhausted from fighting with the builder, so we never pursued it.

3. I worked for them from 1991 to 1997...what a bunch of fuckwits.....
Their hiring practices weren't exactly up to snuff back then, either. I remember hearing horror stories about appliances ( as well as their auto center ). They have an almost uncanny ability to hire the most inept, apathetic people. It's almost like a job requirement there. Good luck with your fridge.

4. ...Update...
SO just called the appliance dept where we bought it and reemed them a new one. Said if we don't get the fridge by 4pm, we will be in the store by 5pm for a full refund. Salesperson is making some phone calls.

The deal was, we were supposed to have this thing by this weekend. Bought it on Tuesday. They either don't have it in stock and are fucking with us or they don't have the delivery staff available, and are still fucking with us.

Why did we go to Sears?

5. The dryer we bought from Sears about a year ago
was defective when it was delivered. It was Halloween evening, and the idiot delivery guys were more interested in getting home to their kids' Halloween activities than installing the dryer and making sure it worked. (Mind you, it was 2 PM. :eyes:) It's a Maytag Drying Center, which is high-end and expensive. They brought it in and put it in the utility area, plugged it in, half-assed hooked up the exhaust hose, and left. When I tested it, it made a horrible screeching sound and the top drying cabinet was warped. I called Sears that minute and complained. They said, "The delivery people should have tested it before they left." I said, "No shit." They had another one in stock but couldn't get it on the schedule for four more days. I said, "You need to move that up. We've been without a dryer for two weeks , and when we purchased the Maytag, we were supposed to have a working one today." They put me on hold and magically "found" another open delivery slot for the next day. When the new delivery team came in, the guy was appalled at how the dryer unit was handled. The first crew was supposed to take out all styrofoam and packing material and have everything ready to use when they left. Of course they didn't. The new guy was very careful to make sure everything was satisfactory before they left. It's been fine ever since.

And I agree---I'm not buying from Sears again. :eyes: I've never had that much trouble with any other appliances we've ever bought. The only reason we went there was that the Maytag mom-and-pop dealership that we used before had gone out of business (because of Sears and Best Buy and other such places). Their prices were exactly the same as the chains, and they had free delivery and setup by experts. And they were very nice to boot. :) We got our gas stove, refrigerator, and washer from them. God, I miss them... :(

8. We still buy our appliances at the only mom and pop...
...shop still left in town. The prices are about the same as the major chains and you get your stuff the same day or early the next as they don't have a whole lot of volume. With our last washer that we bought brand new, the old fella' that runs the store told my wife he was tired of looking at "that thing" and if she bought it right then and there he'd take another $85 off the already reasonable price and deliver and set it up that afternoon. We've never had any problems with anything but if we ever did we know we'd see the same people we bought from 2, 4, 10 years ago.
The last big dollar item we bought from Sears was a very nice riding mower at a very good price. No problems with delivery or the mower and I'm also not a big fan of Sears (long story) but the deal was too good to pass up that time.

10. I miss that kind of service...
 That's the same type of relationship we had with the mom-and-pop Maytag folks. :( We bought our appliances from them starting almost 9 years ago, and it was just last year they went out of business. They still do servicing, but when we needed to buy our dryer in Oct. 2005, they sadly informed us that they no longer sold appliances. We were shocked, and they said they just couldn't compete with the chains. That really sucks.

7. I worked at Sears for a few months while I was in college.
We used the VCRs as steps to get to the TVs and stereo equipment. Once, I had to get a lawn tractor from the warehouse - without a forklift. They gave me a hand truck instead. When I got there, it was on the second shelf from the bottom. I had to push it off on the the floor, which was a six foot drop. *CLUNK* The put it on the hand truck and drag it back to the pick up.

The fridges were usually on the fourth top shelf in the warehouse.

9. We just had a huge problem w/ them
Our fridge's handle was broken, the dishwaser was messed up (I can't remember excatly what it was) and they forgot to screw the thing behind the washing-machine that gets the water into the machine. That caused water damage to our brand new house. also the drier door was on backwards. Sears kept not showing up, and when we got ahold of them, the owner of the store told us that it was the contractor's fault (even though it was Sears that sub-contracted it out, then fired that guy) and that our home-owner's insure would have to pay for it. BS!
We called Nat'l Sears and they made the local Sears fix everything, although I don't remember if the ever came for the water damage.

11. Wait 'till ya get it worked on...... then you really will hate them,
They've changed a lot in the last few years. It's gotten "off the chart" expensive for repairs and parts.

12. **Update II**
So, according to sales lady (who has been really very nice--none of this is her fault), they are willing to give us $100 gift card for our inconvenience and have scheduled delivery for Wed. But they're still fishy about delivering an undamaged fridge. Sales lady said to spousal unit, "Now if there's a little dent--like on the back or something--that'll be okay?" WTF?? Honeybunny said, "...um, NO that will NOT be okay. We want a brand NEW, undamaged unit. That's what we've paid for." I think they got a truck load of damaged goods they're trying to un-ass as new.

We still might end up getting a full refund and going to the local mom-n-pop guys (bought a Whirlpool dryer from them with no problems).
