PET Owners check-in: What are you getting your pet for Xmas/Hannakah?
Holidays are here and nothing like spoiling your four-legged furry friend with presents. Abbie's biggest present, of course, is the fact that he has a home for xmas. But he also got a carrier (which he used yesterday when I took him to the vet), a catnip rug for in the carrier and a few more toys including a stuff bear that I can refill with more catnips.

What are your pet(s) getting for the holidays??

3. A box of "gourmet" doggy treats. I say gourmet just because
they are different than the ones I usually get her. She also got a new toy, which she found in the sack in my closet and already plays with.

Who said pets aren't kids...

4. A bunch of empty boxes and wrapping paper.
They are going to go crazy when we start opening gifts. Some of our friends did get them toys. We got them a kitty cat tower a couple of weeks ago.

7. Catnip, catnip, and more CATNIP!!!
Edited on Tue Dec-23-03 01:04 PM by XNASA
We have two kitties in the house now. We brought one home from the shelter a couple of weeks ago. He's a real sweetheart.

I bought a scratching pad, one of those cardboard things that you spinkle catnip on.

A few cat toys, all of them require the use of catnip.

The only non-catnip item is a toy that resembles a cat-sized punching bag.

Cats sure love catnip, don't they??

13. Home Grown catnip is best
Started growing it a couple of years ago and drying it in the fall. Certain to be organic that way, plus I think it's a little more potent. They love it!

10. A BIG(!!!) Rawhide Bone For Doggie. Tuna For Kitties
The little beasties don't like the cat treats. So, we just split a can of tuna between them. Once on the Eve, once on Christmas morning. The dog already got one of his bones. He'll get the other after Christmas when the first one is gone.

11. Lots of Love and Snuggles
Two weeks of vacation so lots of pampering for the kitties. Plus they love the tissue paper from the presents more than any toy I could buy. I think they have everything else anyway.

12. I love snuggling with my kitty
Especially on my days off. I find myself napping more because the cat will snuggle up with me while I'm in bed doing something (like reading, watching TV, working on my computer) and when he snuggles I just put everything aside and snuggle with him. Then I'm out for 3 hours.

Both laying on me on the couch. Do you feel guilty when you have to disturb them so you can get up? I really hate to bother them when they're sleeping.

19. I bought my fish Christmas gifts this year
For the 55-gallon tank, I got a piece of polished slate floor tile. We're attempting to spawn the Jack Dempseys who live in there, and they apparently like polished slate. Okay, so the sailfin pleco, who was the reason we got the big tank in the first place, has taken it over, and runs off all the cichlids, but that's okay too. I will be moving my paired Dempseys to a 75-gallon tank after the first of the year, and sadly there will be no big pleco in it. They also got two litres of Ehfisubstrat filter media for their canister filter. (Cost $21.99 at Big Al's Online.com.)

My 30-gallon tank got two more clown loaches. We have four of them and a Betta in there now.

The 10-gallon tank is getting convicts after the beginning of the year. We're using them to create fish food. Lori says feeding cichlids to cichlids is a horrible thing, but convicts breed better than guppies so we're not going to be too hurt by it. I don't believe in giving a diet consisting only of live fish to anything but a Belonesox (which is too damn ugly to keep, and which eats nothing but live fish anyway) but when you're feeding flakes, pellets, Tubifex, daphnia and brine shrimp, live fish can be considered a part of a balanced diet. They give the cichlids exercise, if nothing else.

23. I can't afford planetary rule or a private submarine,
and used flypapers were out of the question, so I guess the budgies will get carrots and seed bars, the hamster gets a bigger tunnel, the rabbit gets more food, and the fish gets JACK!

24. Until such time as my pets can convincingly explain the Trinity
I don't see the point of pet gifts.

The cats have plenty of fun with the wrapping paper and boxes and climbing the tree.

26. A great many Christians can't convincingly explain the Trinity
but that doesn't keep them from Christmas gift-giving.
