What really honks you off about other freeway drivers?
My pet peeve is the miscreant who, in bumper-to-bumper traffic, tries to get miles ahead using the break-down lane.

1. What honks me off?
Just the fact that they are there.

2. Yes, that really ticks me off, too.
Also, the ones who use a turn lane to get in front back-up traffic. If I am in the other lane and they try to get over, you can bet I don't let them in.

10. I can't help but smile...
...when truckers see it coming and then pull over to block them.

3. You got about an hour?

I drive for a living, so I see it all. Among the types of behavior that piss me off the most, though, would be:

--those who yak on their cell phones while ostensibly driving;

--drivers who tailgate me when I'm not in the high speed lane and am already going 15 MPH over the speed limit; and

--people who get into the high speed lane and drive 15 MPH *under* the speed limit.

:grr:

4. for me it is this:
those who will speed up and pass me, then pull in front of me and slow down enough that i have to pass them (i am a cruise control kid), then as soon as i re-enter the right lane, sure enough, here they come racing past me, pulling in front of me, and slowing down enough that i have to pass them...ad infinitum...great fun on long drives...

9. Yes, yes, yes!
The "American Way"--get ahead for the sake of getting ahead, then obstruct others' steady progress.

Every time that happens to me, I wonder, what the hell is the point?

5. slow lane commandos..
you know.. the people who are so terrified to merge into traffic, that they drive in the far right lane making it difficult, if not downright impossible, to merge or exit the freeway.

6. Speeders
Especially when driving conditions warrant dropping speed. (So many people think that 80MPH must be maintained at all times.)

7. "Drving slowly in the fast lane"
I recently came on an essay by the writer who uses the pen-name "Spengler" in Asia Times online. His or her essay called "What is american culture?" contains the following:

snip>

After the fashion of Eliot, I have complied my own list of characteristic features of American culture.

1. Driving slowly in the fast lane. Americans consider it their privilege to amble along in the fast (left-hand) lane, while swifter drivers overtake in the near-side lane (for which European policemen would arrest them straightaway). Clumps of slower drivers impede traffic and set the stage for pileups. This is the sad result of misguided egalitarianism. Americans believe that they should be able to drive wherever they wish, whereas class privilege rules the road in Europe. Faster cars belong in the fast lane and nudge slower-moving vehicles out of the way.

sleepy asshats
cell phone talkers (get a headset and PAY ATTENTION)
tailgaters (hey, I can't go any faster than the guy ahead of me, buddy)
cargo vans full of strippers that won't stop flashing me

(OK, I made that last one up)

13. Tailgaters
Especially the ones that tailgate under any weather or dangerous condition: rain, snow, ice, hail, fog, volcanic ash, wildlife, earthquake, whatever.

Aren't people taught anymore to keep two car lanes behind another car?

14. People who freak out whenever you wave your gun at them.
I mean, jeez, what I'm I gonna do, shoot 'em? Damn right I will, especially if they don't start driving like they outta.

15. People who won't let other people in
from the on-ramps. Traffic moves smoother if each drive lets one car merge onto the freeway in front of them. But some of these idiot road hogs speed up to crowd anyone else from getting on in front of them. Just more self-centered driving.
