My cat eats marshmallows.
Not only does he eat them, he's totally obsessed with them now.

Ever see one of those marshmallow shooters made out of PVC pipe? Basically, it's a blowgun; you put a marshmallow in and blow into the tube and it shoots out the other end. Fun, witty, clever, dirt cheap (the perfect christmas gift, in other words).

So, after shooting ZenLeftyGirl with marshmallows to the point she was going to deny me sex for the next 7 weeks, I decided to pick a different target. I didn't actually shoot the cat, but just shot one close to him to see what he would do.

He was alarmed and mystified all at once. He chased the marshmallow, then batted it around for a minute (quite hysterical). Then he ate it. Chomp chomp chomp GULP!

Then he proceeded to search for more around the house! I think he got two before I was able to pick them all up. Then he meowed for more. I caught him licking the marshmallow shooter this morning. Anything to sample that savory marshmallow taste. He meows whenever I pick it up.

I've created a marshmallow monster.

Who, me?

the little shit. I've had to move the presents out from under the tree, but now they have easier access to the ornaments. It's a lose-lose situation.

6. My cat eats bananas
And the second you start to peel it, he will hear it wherever he is in the house and be howling at your leg in about 10 seconds.

11. Wrigley chews through the banana peel!
If I don't put them in the pantry (and close the door) I'll find the nanas with tooth marks in them. It looks like a vampire has been at them. I asked the vet about it, wondering if it was a vitamin deficiency or something. She said no, they all have their favorite things. Her cat did the same thing with cantelope!

What wonderfully weird creatures!

12. Siamese cats have a predilection for many fruits
My siamese had a fondness of bananas, cantelope, and christmas candy canes (she'd lick them until we made her stop).

10. One of our cats is obsessed with carrots...
He's crazy about the smell.

However, it's best not to let cats eat anything but cat food.

Most anything else can have hidden dangers to their system.

13. American cheese slices.
Darn cat DEMANDS her cheese in no uncertain terms, several times a day.

I give her a quarter of a slice, carefully rolled up in 4 pea-sized bites. She scarfs it down and is set for another couple of hours.

27. He had a brother Jake
Jake was actually a dog, though. (Well, Elwood similar to a dog, in size anyway). I never knew Jake, as he was my girlfriend's, but they were pretty much inseparable. Elwood would sleep in his doghouse, I'm told.

Now look at Big Sam there. Nice of you to buy a chair just for him like that. He's a cutie - love the cats with white paws. :D

Pretty boy....

BTW -- the chair Sam is lounging in is a big chair. And do you think he'll move? No. I may just buy another chair so I can have one too.

21. On Thanksgiving....
.....I watched a cat playing with a miniature marshmallow on the kitchen floor, and kitty hooked it with his paw and threw it overhand up and into the kitchen sink! I never saw such an accomplishment from a cat. It was a good eight feet throw.

Yes, some cats love marshmallows.

My calico loves peanut butter and donuts and will get right in your face.

My orange marmalade likes marshmallows and anything dairy.

My dear departed tabby Chester loved pizza crust, cheesy popcorn, meatloaf and bacon.

I should note that none get more than the tiniest tidbit of any of these foods.

22. Yours, too?
My late great Siamese was a marshmallow fiend. It's a trait she passed down to my youngest cat, a male who was rescued from the gutter as a kitten.

All you have to do is rip open a marshmallow bag and that little bugger will be all over you. Scatch that, his psychic antenna gets raised when you bring the grocery bag into the house. Sometimes he uses stealth to snare the marshmallows, waiting until we're not looking and sneaking his head into the bag.

The bad thing about this habit is that a cat-slimed marshmallow is almost worse to step on than the cold remains of a middle of the night hairball hurl.

26. We've had two hard roll-eating cats
The first one we got about six months after we got married. One fine day we were eating dinner with a basket of hard rolls on the edge of the table. The cat jumped on the table, grabbed a roll, jumped back to the floor and slurped it right down.

The cat I pried out of my front suspension has been known to open bread bags herself. Unfortunately, when the cat opens a bread bag she leaves a hole in the side of it.

man, she loved 'em! would go crazy if my dad brought any home. But this was the same kitty that had been known to break into a bag of oreo's on top of the fridge, steal one, and eat it in the living room.

32. My cat can't even eat tuna!
Anything other than dry cat food is barfed up eventually! He is very healthy, so we asked the vet about it later. He said that any high calorie food with a high level of fat or suger is bad for a cat's health. The cause of our cat vomiting the tuna was the oil mixed into the meat. Something else which is harmful to a cat's health is any kind of chocolate. That really screws up their digestive system, and enough of it can even be toxic to cats and damage their Central Nervous System.
