I bought a big juicy roast beef for Christmas dinner, but I don't think we can bring ourselves to eat it now. What should I make instead? Cornish game hen? Porkloin?

We ended up with mac n' cheese a couple of years ago due to a vegetarian sister in law who refused to allow the rest of us to eat meat at the holiday meal. (The SIL in question has also indulged in a very unhealthy personal habit for the past 20+ years, but that's okay. I'm not bitter about this or anything...) The other SIL decided to make pumpkin soup. She doesn't believe in recipes and is the most horrible cook I have ever encountered. To this day, we're not sure what exactly was in the soup, and DH and I were ill for three days afterwards.

Needless to say, we don't have holiday dinner with any of them anymore. We'll be dining on a roast beef we're making in the crock pot. If you're not into slaving over a hot stove, try the following:

1 roast beef or rump roast
2 cans cream of mushroom soup
1/3 cup red wine (if you'll drink it, it's good to cook with)
1 clove garlic, diced (you can add more)

Garlic goes in bottom of crock pot. Quickly brown beef; place into crock pot, add soup and red wine. Cook in crock on "low" for 6-8 hours. The recipe makes its own unbelievably good gravy.

So the Bush admin decided to toss in the one lone cow that has Mad Cow Disease to ensure that everyone has a miserable, terrifying Xmas.

Aren't we lucky.

BTW - we eat either turkey or ham for Xmas and there is always plenty of venison from hunting season!!!

18. Actually the chances of a roast being dangerous are low

If this were widespread, it would be impossible for them to keep it quiet. One is at much more risk eating a hamburger than a roast beef, as it was a dairy cow that was infected.

20. Hey, it's easy to let it all get to you.

My birthday is Saturday, and my husband has been planning for months to take me out to a nice steak dinner. He asked me last night if I wanted to cancel, but I said no.
