Mark Hammill looking totally lost, Harrison Ford looked like he wanted to strangle George Lucas, and Carrie Fischer looking like she was stoned out of her mind on cocaine. (She was.) :-)

Had ONE bright spot.

6. I remember it as strangely unfulfilling.

This was before cable, before videotapes, and during that long three years before Empire, when we were all grasping for anything related to Star Wars. Battlestar Galactica had its moments, but it all seemed just a cheap imitation of the real thing. (Does anyone remember the premiere of it being cut short by the Camp David accords signing?) The next year, the library magically got Star Wars on 8mm, but you could still only check it out for 72 hours if you were lucky enough to find it.

So here comes a Star Wars special! Like I said, the mere sight of these characters on the TV was worth the indignity of it, but barely. Like I said, it was strangely unfulfilling, and it was a long 18 months or so until the sequel.

On the other hand, it prepared us to the point where it wasn't a sudden shock to see the two worst moments of the trilogies, which were the Ewoks and Jar Jar.

there are copies of it around with some news anchor talking about 'fighting the frizzles', South Park had something about the anchor
