Great song. Americana at its best. What's your favorite version?

5. It has great lyrics too
:)

Peggy Sue
Got pregnant
And was addicted to fifteen drugs
She went down
To the abortion clinic
And was accosted
By right wing thugs

CHORUS
Oh will the fetus
Be aborted
By and by Lord
By and by
There's a better
Home awaiting
In the sky Lord
In the sky

Little Mary
Was just eleven
And she was raped
By her own dad
Danny Quayle said
"Have that baby"
But another choice
She had

CHORUS

Annie's pregnancy
Would kill her
Doctor's warning
Gave her strife
Fundamentalists
Said "Jesus take her"
She said, "I want
My right to life"

CHORUS

Kathy had two
Kids already
And an abortion
Is what she chose
Christian showed her
A bloody fetus
She said "That's fine
I'll have one of those."

CHORUS

Tanya lived for
Revolution
Wanted to overthrow
The state
She had fifteen
Commie babies
Phylis Schlafly
Ain't that great?

Or will the fetus
Be aborted...

8. How about...

...The Statler Brothers? They sang back up to Johnny Cash and June Carter's version from the 1960's.

11. The Statler Brothers were part of Johnny Cash's show...
I saw them a couple of times at the old Houston Coliseum. The Statlers' routine featured their cornball humor but they backed Johnny up beautifully.

Mother Maybelle & her daughters were also in the show. She played autoharp since arthritis had robbed her of the ability to replicate her famous & influential guitar style. They also did a few originals, June sang a duet or two with Johnny & they all sang backup.

Johnny's band featured Carl Perkins who'd sing "Blue Suede Shoes" & a few others. Also a very young Marty Stuart. There was a lot of music history on that stage.

My "favorite" version of Circle is the original by the "Original" Carter Family (A.P., Sara & Maybelle). But let me put in a good word for the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's. In 1971, long-hair hippy weirdos went into a Nashville studio with country artists mostly considered too "old fashioned" by the Country Music Biz & created a wonderful record: "Will the Circle Be Unbroken".
