Thank you for all of you kind words! Oneighty My father so much enjoyed DU
and I can see why. Everytime I came over here he would show me something that you had left him. He especially loved your responses to his stories. My apologies for using his user name but I tried to thank you all before for the beautiful flowers you sent to us but I don't have enough DU time in on my user name and could not post. The flowers were so special. My mom and I were sitting at the table deep in thought when they arrived. It was so very special of you all. I know that he was in touch with many of you but I have to say a special thank you jitterbug and skittles as he spoke of you highly. You have no idea how much you fulfilled his life. We miss him so much and thank you skittles for the printout of all the responses. We had them at his memorial service. I was overwhelmed with emotion reading them. Thank you, Pattie(ButterCup)

Oneighty is signing off!

I loved seeing your father's username here again tonight....
He was a truly remarkable man, and I will miss him. Sleep well, oneighty.

To ButterCup (Pattie), my mother died last December. It has been difficult, but your departed parents are always with you in a way. Be well. He loved all of you so much.

Do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there, I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on the snow,
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush,
Of quiet birds in circled flight;
I am the soft stars that shine at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there, I did not die.

9. Your Dad was such an important part of...
the DU community -- it's a very hard thing to lose someone like that. I live in SF and he once told me stories about what shore leave in SF was like back in the day -- sounds like he lived his life fully. :)

Hugs to you and mrsoneighty - he was such a special man to so many of us and we had him only on the screen before us. I can only imagine what he was like as a father and husband, you both were truly blessed and now the hole in your heart so wide. May your love for him and memories of him and his love for you ease the pain of his loss. In time, may the hurt stop, the love never will.

Not a day has passed that he has not crossed my mind while listening to music or just passing by my bookshelf. Your father was so generous. He sent me his book, some other stories and pictures. He was a special man and many of us will never forget him. Thank you for the message, seeing his name up there was both happy and sad. I hope you all find peace, I know he would want that for you.

I wish I had known your father better than I did -he sounds like a remarkable and wonderful person who undoubtedly made the world a better place for his having been in it. I know that he was loved and respected by many on his forum and that he contributed a special dimension to DU that will live on in the hearts and minds of so many people around the world on this board who viewed his posts and enjoyed his insights and perspectives.

I thank him for his war service and for making a difference in the years he lived to so many people throughout the world. I know the legacy of the life that your father led and the lives that he touched will endure for years to come.

My deepest and most sincere thoughts, prayers, condolences and sympathies remain with you and your family Pattie:hug:

Thank you for your thoughtful words. Your Dad meant so much to so many here, and his gentle kindness and words of wisdom made a very positive difference in my life.

I will never, ever forget him.

Your father made my son's day whenever he would post a story of his. He is 8 and, from the age of 6, he would come up to me on the computer and ask if there were any new stories. Thank you so much for sharing him with us.

48. We traded some wonderful PMs about Japan,
and he told me some stories of his time there and how he so hoped to return - I'm very sad he hasn't gotten the chance; but then, I like ot think that the dead can travel wherever they want without being bounded by space or time, so perhaps he's enjoying Japan far more now than he ever could.

:-)

You had a cool dad, and I will miss him.

51. Honestly, I have a hard time telling one DUer from another
So, if your father could get so many people on an anonymous internet message board to care about him so much... he must have been one special person and one heck of a guy! Thanks for posting and I wish all the best for you and your family.

It's threads like these that make me think the internet might not be such a bad place after all.
