Looooseeeeeee I'm hoome! Wanna hear about my trip?
In case anybody wondered, my car and I made it back from Portland. That is one long tiring drive.

I had a fabulous time though. And I'm not just saying that 'cause I got vegan reddiwhip at Food Fight!. I'm also saying that because I got to hang out with thirty of the nicest people in the universe and just gorge myself one of the most vegan friendly cities on the planet. Oh, and we got to go yell at the fur hags at Schumacher Furs, then go to Pirate's Taven, which was cool as hell too.

Somebody asked me to report back on Portland itself. Here goes:

Upsides:
Very bike, walking and transit friendly
Pretty
Very lefty (although I'm told the suburbs are really really not)
Lots of places to persue higher education
Vegan? Plenty of people will feed and clothe you for mostly reasonable amounts of money

Downsides:
Crazy expensive housing
Maybe I picked a bad weekend but the place was absolutely swarming with cops
Parking? What's that?
Welcome to Portland, here's your black hoodie. Maybe it's just where I was going but everybody had variations on the same outfit.

Restraunt summary
Bay Leaf- The one place I wasn't crazy about. The tofu I got was a bit soft, which would have been okay in smaller chunks but the very large peices made for a bit much soft flavorless middle to marinated and textured exterior. Either smaller peices or firmer tofu would have made for a much better meal. Several dining companions had cold food and other quality issues as well.

VooDoo Donuts- The place is tiny and the vegan donut selection is small. They're pretty good, but I'd definitely go with Mighty-O instead all things being equal.

Veganopolis- Food was fabulous. Selection really good even though thier oven had broken the day I visited. The cake was a teeny bit dry, probably because it was wheat-free and used spelt or something.

Pirates Taven- The servers are great. The food is amazing. The food was perhaps a touch overpriced but the extremely cheap beer would make up for it for those not on designated driver duty. It could use a bit more piratey decor, but it's not actually had it's grand opening yet so perhaps that's still a work in progres.

Vita- Get the Country Fried Tempeh. You will thank me.

VegeThai- Really good food. Really bad background music.

Paradox- Get the Paradox Potatoes.

Store Summary
I have nothing but nice things to say about Herbivore and Food Fight!

5. Sounds like you had a great time.
God...Portland has crazy expensive housing? I looked at apartments there on Craigslist and I was like, "woah, super cheap housing!" Yep, Morris County, NJ with their NYC prices and err...umm...nothing else.

7. I pay 97$ per month. Plus 1/7 of utilities..
And I only live there half of the year. 7 people in a three bedroom house.

It sounds awesome.

If you ever come up to NYC I'll take you on a similar tour of great restaurants here. :)
