Son tells stunned parents he's not the person they just buried
http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2003-12-25-son-not-dead_x.htm

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Charles Wyckoff and his wife had returned home after a funeral for their son when the phone rang.
"Hey, Dad," Kevin Wyckoff said.

"Huh. Well, damn boy. We just had your funeral today," his father said Monday, according to a transcript of the call provided Wednesday by the Oklahoma Corrections Department.

"Yeah, I know. I heard," Kevin Wyckoff said.

"Well, what the hell is going on?" his father asked.

1. no wonder this kid is in jail
this is all his parents had to say? His mother says "someone is in big trouble", but nothing about "thank god you are alive, I didn't know how I was going to live without you"?

3. Yes, the parents' reaction is bizarre
Reminds me of the time when one of the street kids I worked with died in a freak accident. He was a throwaway, born with a disability and thrown out of the house at age eleven.

When the cops tracked down his mother to inform her, all she said was, "So? What am I supposed to do about it?"

2. IBYFP?
"The family will not receive any immediate reimbursement for the funeral expense and may have to file a claim, <[corrections dept. spokesman>] Massie said. 'We can't just write them a check.'"

Why the bloody hell not, you fool? You MUST just reimburse them. Now. Right now.

What a bunch of morans.

4. Does CCA run the prisons in OK?
Sounds like a Community Corrections of America fuck-up.

"CCA, where SOME day, we'll have ALL your asses under our care..."

5. lol, the ultimate momism
"We buried you today, boy," she said.

"I understand that. It's not my fault, though," he responded.

I can see my mom coming at me with something like this. "You died, and you didn't even call!"
