He was this organist from India who came to L.A. and had a TV show in the 1950s, on which he'd wear a turban and play very exotic-sounding music on the organ against a backdrop of clouds. He also made several albums, which I've heard sold fairly well.
I read an interview with Pandit about a decade ago in a book titled INCREDIBLY STRANGE MUSIC, VOL. 2. I was intrigued enough to have spent the last ten years sporadically (and unsuccessfully) seeking out the man's music. But my efforts have finally paid off!
A couple of nights ago, in the newsgroup alt.binaries.sounds.mp3.1950s, someone posted Korla Pandit's ODYSSEY. I just finished burning it onto CD and am listening now.
If anyone likes, I'll post my thoughts on the music once I've finished playing all 20 tracks and have had a chance to sleep on it. Some time on Friday, perhaps. Just let me know if there's any interest!
