What Movie Should We Got To Today? 'LOTR' or 'Mystic River'?
I'm afraid 'Mystic River' will disappear from the theaters before I get a chance to see it. Hubby wants to go see LOTR but it's also school vacation, which means a lot of obnoxious kids going to see LOTR. I think LOTR will be around for a while because of its popularity.

Then again, he could always go alone and I could go shopping...what to do, what to do.

1. Get Mystic River.
The book was great and I hear the movie is even better. Will and I watched a bunch of movies over the holiday. He brought them and said "this is the best movie I've seen in a long time, you'll love it>" So we would watch and it would be blood and gore and murder and mayhem and I would be sitting there with my eyes covered saying "Will, can I watch now?" Yeeeesh! I don't know where that boy got his taste in movies!

2. I Went to LOTR Yesterday
And it was beautiful, but 3.5 hours long. This time I didn't buy any drinks, so nobody had to go to the bathroom.

And it is impossible for all the plot nuances to fit into any reasonable sized length, so I estimate that only a quarter of the third volume was actually depicted.

Hope this helps with the decision.

The theater was fairly empty yesterday. Everyone is probably doing bargain hunting today. Me, I'm just burned out on all the commercialism.

4. LOTR stinks..
just like the other two. Although it was the best of the trilogy, it still pretty much sucked. I still can't figure out why there was a middle movie, other than to make money.

i've heard nothing but good things about mystic river.

5. Mystic River, for sure.
I have NEVER been a fan of Sean Penn, always thought he was completely overrated as an actor. In this film he's perfect. And his wife, played by Laura Linney, does an amazing job herself. At the very end of the movie she has a scene or two that are worth the price of admission. Only don't sit through the movie waiting for that payoff, but appreciate every moment leading up to it.
