Did anyone ever tell you "you'll never amount to anything" ?

Except around strangers. Then he'd ascribe abilities to me I didn't have and to which I could never aspire. I ended up somewhere in-between, as though he'd just kept his mouth shut. :silly:

I would talk w/ mother and tell her about a job I got and the FIRST thing she would say is "Maybe you will be the manager -translates to 'you are not good enough."

13. A lot of idiots posing as teachers in Ambridge (PA) High School

#1 on that list was Felix Persi, 8th grade algebra teacher who repeatedly insulted me in 1968-69. He did more damage to me than anyone else, but his fellow teachers fell in line calling me stupid, dummy, moron, etc.

Well, I went to college, got an MA in Economics and became a master level chess and bridge player. Now I design computer software and live a nice life in Los Angeles with my girl friend.

MEANWHILE, Ambridge died with the collapse of the steel industry. The town is totally dead.

14. SOme teachers have no place in school

I had some amazing teachers....but I had some that should have had their chalk taken away.

16. Nah, I suffered from other people's high expectations

being forced onto me. It lasted until the second year of college when, after two semesters of sex, booze and rock&roll, Iona College and I parted company.

Went to work in the Post Office, became an electrician, married a marvelous woman, fathered two wonderful children, paid my bills, did my best to be a good man and citizen, wrote a book, retired and moved to Florida.

Maybe I'm not Bill Gates but life hasn't been too shabby.

17. My father always told me

I'd never amount to anything. He also would tell me "At least you're petite, the boys will like you."

He was right about me being petite but he was very wrong about me not amounting to anything. Too bad he chose not to live long enough to see just what I accomplished and am still accomplishing!

i had an art teacher in high school that tried hard to convince me that i would never be as good as my sister. i believed her for about 10 years. think i have finally outgrown it.

I am my own worst critic. My parents :loveya: were great, always told me I could do anything but unfortunately I believed my own inner voice and have always been defeated before I ever start. :argh: :-(
