funniest moments of LOTR movies intentional and unintentional
Before anyone thinks I'm bashing the trilogy think again, I truly love these movies. I really doubt anyone could have done a better job considering the material.

Anyway, there are some moments that were supposed to be funny, such as one of the new scenes in the TT DVD. Merry and Pippen find a stash of good weed and are then heard laughing rather long at a joke one of them tells while Tree beard looks on and is maybe even perplexed? probably have to see it

As far as the unintentional funnies, two scenes come instantly to mind. Now it could have been that the combination of sitting in my seat for a long time in an unusually warm theatre (I swear they had the thermostat set at 74 or higher) but SAm was providing some comic relief in my opinion

scene 1: Sam asks Frodo to "share the load" which would have been ok but they had to give us a close up of his lips and slow it down for us while he spoke. This reminded me for some reason of the movie PCU and the scene where Jon Favreau's character is wandering around town stoned out of his mind and mishearing what people are saying to him (Can you blow me where the pampers are)....

scene 2: SAm is making the heroic charge up the stairs in Minas Morgul taking on a few orcs himself. The scene was just fine but I had the urge to start chanting "Rudy, Rudy" for some odd reason.

anyway, did anyone else out there find anything fun in the movies?

1. It's the cheese!
Near the end of the last movie. Where grimli is contemplating going against all odds AGAIN, going to certain death AGAIN,no hope AGAIN. And sohe smiles and cheerfully says "ok,why not?"(paraphrasing like crazy here!) My theater crowd roars with laughter.

3. The actor
who plays Legolas is a skatepunk from hell in real life. You should see some of his antics on the trilogy DVDs.

20. He's a bit of a daredevil, isn't he?
I recall him having a mohawk and bungee-jumping off a helicopter or something equally dangerous to base jumping.

Ahhh youth.

4. yeah, that was funny but could have done w/o the superheroics
of Legolas there. It just seemed a bit much ya know?

There is a hilarious scene in TT after the battle of helm's deep that's along the lines of those two keeping score. I won't give it away in case you haven't seen it yet but I found it freakin' hilarious

5. The counting is in the book
So they had to keep it in the movie. Its a matter of pride between the two. I think, in the book, gimli was ahead by one.

7. Oh, I know it's in the book
but this particular scene in the TT isn't but it's worth the addition.

The elephant scene however, is not in the book and could have stayed out IMO

22. Yeah, it was a bit contrived, but I expected it.
In the first movie, it was the excellent archery work (my understanding is that pros appreciated the prep work he did), expecially as they are fighting the Uruk Hai in the forest. Quite frankly, the man moves well, like a dancer.

The stallion-mounting was the best "trick" in TTT, so I expected something unique, daring, and gracefully accomplished in the ROTK. I'm hoping the extended version has a little more supernatural stuff from the elves.

6. Return of the King (spoiler alert)
When Faromir's father was about to light Faromir and himself on fire, and struck a Jesus pose, I laughed out loud! How freakin pathetic can you get?

8. This is an unintentional moment.... YEAH RIGHT~!!
Hello, this is MINILUVAMREICAHATEBUSH!!!! In the first movie, during the Council of Elrond, Gimli, son of Gloin, spews a snot ball while yelling at our fav Elf. You have to look and not blink 'cause its like four seconds of snot ball, right when he is done making his speech. Funny, no?

And in my 12 year old mind, I think that it looks like Manic Republicans spewing their Thug Bootlicker *Insert word here I'm not allowed to say*, but the REAL LuvAmreaciaHateBush thinks that it's disrepectful to think of it that way....but she allows it.

Put the first movie in, play in slow motion, humor your kids, it's funny!

And the one meant to be from Two Towers, is the good ol' "Toss me." between Mr. I hate washing and Gimli.

17. Gimli played too often for laughs
I kinda thought Gimli was played too many times for laughs, myself. I undertand comic relief and lightening the scene with some comic pacing, but DAMMIT!!!...Dwarves are supposed to be big (well, little) mean, axe-wielding, fighting machines... not punchlines!

But if that's the only complaint I have with the movies, I guess I should count my blessings. :)

10. I Think Any Scene
featuring Hugo Weaving as King of the Elves was hilarious. During the Two Towers, I couldn't for the life of me figure out what was so familiar about the King of the Elves. Then, during the RotK, it struck me and I couldn't take the character seriously after that. I kept expecting him to come out with something: "Yes, Mr. Anderson, the time has come to sail for the Western lands."

12. In the "Two Towers",
Faramir asks Sam if he is Frodo's bodyguard. Sneering back at him, Sam replies "No-his gardener".

13. Gollum in general
Some smart reviewer once described Gollum/Smeagol as "Ross Perot after a decade on the Atkin's diet". I'm afraid that every time Gollum took center stage, I remembered this and was tempted to laugh out loud.

On subject: Any scene with Hobbits looking wistfully into each others eyes is a real send up!

16. unfortunately, I kept thinking of Bush's Saddam-capture speeches ...
... during the time Gollum was onscreen. The way that Bush can switch between his "respectable" and "gloating" personas is weirdly reminiscent. (The difference being, I actually feel kind of sorry for Gollum/Smeagol!)

18. I'll second Merry and Pip smoking Old Tovy
I'll have to second the bit where Pip and Merry are smoking Old Tovy ("finest weed in the Southfarthing") and start laughing at an inane joke.

I went to see the movie with a pal of mine I've known since high school (we stared smokin' the wacky-tabbacky at the same time and both quit within a year of each other) and we just kinda looked at each other at that scene and winked. We knew.... :hippie:

19. In "Fellowship," where Elrond says
"The ring must be taken back to Mordor and cast back into the fiery chasm from whence it came!"

It came across as over-the-top, cheesy theatrics. And of course -

"One of you must do this." Because I sure as hell am not dumb enough to try it. Sorry, you can't keep the ring here, best of luck, now get the hell out of here and don't come back.

26. I loved the movies, but....
In FOTR, Strider picks up the sword which has just wounded Frodo & says "It's a morgul blade." Is that anything like a Vorpal Sword?

In TTT, the wargs reminded me of overgrown R.O.U.S.'s

I really wish I hadn't read somebody's opinion that Rivendell looked like a Thomas Kinkaid painting. No, no, no! Maxfield Parrish, maybe....
