1. Anyone who would like one

deserves one, because it shows they value DU membership.

However, making people jump through hoops and prove their worthiness just because they don't have some spare cash to buy a start is kind of uncool. :(

If you're looking to be generous, that's cool, but it might be really nice if you just donate for the first one or two people you see who want a start, no questions asked.

3. Not meaning to sound disprespectful or insulting..

I could certainly pick someone at random, but I choose not to. I wouldn't walk down the street handing out $10 bills, I'd want to know that the person I gave it to needed it. Remember, there are plenty of DU'ers out there who plan to make a donation, and just haven't yet, and still more who could care less if they have a star or not. I'm simply seeking out those who genuinely want or need one-and that hardly constitutes making someone "jump through hoops". I didn't ask them to eat a live chicken and mail me the feathers-just tell me why I'm helping.
If you'd like to donate stars with "no questions asked" I think that's great, and I applaud those DU'ers who do.
